1997. Start with an engine, transmission and driveshaft from a $400.00 1953 Ford. Is that what is know as a crate engine? Have the Ford-O-Matic trans gone through. $4,000.00 Gibbon body. I did not overhaul the engine. Just cleaned the sludge out of the pan. Do ALL the work yourself. Sold the 53 Ford for $125.00. 2,000 Goodguys Southest Nattionals won BEST BITCH'N award. 2013 Goodguys Southest Nationals won DEUCE DOIN'S first place. img547.jpg img557.jpg img413.jpg

Fra-gee-lay…what major award are you attempting to recieve?

  3. He seemingly fails to realize that GoodGuys gives out something like 70 awards per show and the Deuce Doin's doesn't have a "First Place". Guy is off in la-la land; still reminiscing about awards he received over a decade plus another ago.

This one was close to the same costs. And has won awards at Goodguys multiple times.

15 K could build a hell of a car in 1997 if you weren't paying a shop to do the work. Even then it was by hunting down deals rather than just forking over cash though. If you were to hand five guys on here an itemized parts list to build a roadster they would come back with five price tallies that would probably be thousands of dollars apart top to bottom for the same parts.

    "Dennis Frings"

I remember that name, from my Oval Track days.

That was as pretty high dollar car in the late 90's. Here's what a $10K roadster, built in 2020, looks like...;) 64B8ABD2-C47F-4930-85E6-BBE7123802FC.jpeg

That’s a nicely finished car Frames. I think you could get close in today’s money but it would be an accomplishment as it was then.

Just wait till he bumps his own chest-pumping thread for more recognition

Man, that is 10,000 times cooler too! I'd drool all over that if I saw it at a show.

Today that quick change rear is what, $3-5K? Wheels are how much? I found a fiberglass 32 roadster body new from TRC for $5,850, then you still need frame rails, a front axle, brakes, etc. A lot of money there in today's prices. Engine and trans are always the least expensive items on my builds, it's everything else that costs, costs, costs.

I guess when you build the frame yourself, and have all those frame parts, plus the quick change, the grille, & grille shell, and the chrome front suspension, on hand laying around, those parts don't count as part of the build costs. Having Mr. Frings listed as the car owner also probably puts you 3/4 of the way to the trophy.

If that car cost $10,000 when did you buy the Hemi ?
    Seen a couple recently, $5000+
Doing all your own work is fine, but everybody has to buy SOMETHING.

Nice work and a nice ride at the end of the day. A well established history of craftsmanship. Props for your contributions. For as much people on here that hate Facebook. Would fit in well with the bashing lol.

Inflation is not consistent. Can't apply a fixed percentage to every product.

Pre Covid, I was paying around $20 CDN for a pound of Pewter with delivery.
It would fluctuate plus or minus $1 or so. During Covid, it hit almost $44 a lb.
So I stopped buying, waiting for it to come down.
Just went and checked the current price: Almost $39.00

Especially car parts. I've seen the price of a 727 trans rebuild kit just almost double in 4 yrs alone.

Price of a good running flathead and Trans today is what now guys ?

Wheels and tires, just a cheaper set will set you back around 2 grand alone, mention halibrand and you've just tripled that amount.

Not to mention any chrome work your going to have done..... oh don't forget the price of a 32 grille shell and grille too today...

Unfortunately , " car parts" inflation has far outstripped government BS inflation numbers . Their numbers are a classic case of " figures don't lie but liars can figure " example , gas was $.65. .75 per gal in 1997 , it's $3.65 per gal today . That's roughly 6 times as much , $15k becomes $90k

Well Im impressed with what he managed to do on a budget. I couldnt even come close, so all power to him.

And Im guessing some of you would bitch about my "high dollar" builds - caused by my inability to build stuff myself, and the huge shortage of $4000, rustfree 32 Fords in this part of the globe

    .75 a gallon in ‘97?
Not anywhere near where I was.

Heck, last time I recall it being under a buck a gallon was the ‘70’s.

  28. No. This guy bashes high dollar builds, calls them “buy and bolt”” or some other ramblings and uses this glass 32 as an example of not “buy and bolt”
    It goes both ways

In some circles, people brag about how much they spent on some vanity project.
High end trailer queens, for example. The bigger the number, the better.
It boosts their fragile ego, and gives them social status.

In other circles, people brag about how they built something dirt cheap.
Frequently when you look closer, half of the parts were "free", or "sweetheart deals" that can't be duplicated,
or Take Offs from some other project, or have been sitting around so long they forget the actual price.
And all the Nickle and Dime parts that add up fast, don't get included. It is almost like they don't want
their wife to know how much they really spent.
