That is good! Love the look of both cars in one place.

    Hey @J.Ukrop
Bravo young road warrior, with the new and improved (KNEE ACTION) shock absorber!
This is absolutely outstanding, photographic evidence, of true hot rod evolution, from banger power, to V8 Ford flat-head power!
2.0 is definitely looking like a kick ass ride!
You should be very proud of all of your progress.
It made me smile, to catch a glimpse of the ROYAL STANDARD place-mat on David's cabinet.
    Thanks from Dennis.

It looks so good on '32 rails.
Headlights are perfect, looks very 50's in my eyes.

  6. Wow Joey!! The car and stance look perfect!! What a milestone. Thanks for letting us share in your journey. It' not often you see a dream become a reality. As I get older I realize that we have to cherish these triumphs. You never know where life will take you and you have to realize that these are the good old days.

I am living vicariously through you. Can't wait to see the pictures of you ripping around SF in your "new" hot rod.

Looking forward to more updates. Congratulations!!

  7. Damn man, I was going to mention you might need an angled breather but looks like the clearance between the firewall and the cap is ok in the last picture now

I’d love a mazi moto /947 style video walking around this and taking the first fires and drives if
    You’ve got the energy.

Excited & sad at the same time. Hard to think of the banger chassis being scattered. I'd have thought someone here would have grabbed it all. I've watched too much Disney.:D

Sounds like a clue? If not it should be, he certainly looks like he's enjoying the process very much :D

Congrats fella, all of that hardwork is paying off.

    Looks cool, too.

  14. Joey, I have used a Johnson bar to move heavy machinery, but never used a Johnson bar to move a roadster body.

In all the pictures of taking the car over to David's with the body strapped to the chassis, the stance is perfects. After the crowbar and the brackets, the rear wheels seem to be not centered, but rather hanging out the back of the wheel well. Is this just a bad angle photo or what?

Thanks, everyone! I couldn't have made it this far without you. All the physical therapy has been working—the knee didn't give me any grief all weekend.

Thank you! That's what I was going for. Flipping through old magazines, cars had their headlights a little bit higher than what's in style nowadays. Having a high bar and seven-inch sealed beams has always been the plan. I'm really happy with how much personality it gives the car.

Thanks Brian. I agree that these are the good old days. Hearing that reminds me of a sign in my brother's neighborhood, which I touched upon in "Into the Woods: A Hot Rod Camping Story."

Have a blast at the Roadster Show and Born Free. I'll be there in spirit!

Yes! I actually bought one of those new breather tubes from Gear Drive, just in case. Looks like we might be good for now.

Oh you know it! Yama got some great footage, and I can't wait for him to shoot more.

Oh, don't you worry: the parts are going to great homes where they will live on. But more on that later!

I actually asked him that the other day. The answer: once we can find the space!

    Thank you! It's still surreal.

    Thank ya!

Now that you mention it, I think I mislabeled that bar. I'm not actually sure what it's called, but it worked well for the task at hand.

Warren, we did a great deal of measuring throughout the process, and the wheels are centered in the wheelwells. Looking through the photos, the curve of the iPhone camera lens combined with the angle makes it look off-center.

Back when I was working at TRJ there was a strict no wide-angle lens policy for just this reason. (Throughout my time there, only long lenses were used.) I'm planning to roll the car out in the driveway tomorrow, and I'm hoping to take a few profile shots.

Also, I am kind of procrastinating on working on the Econoline right now. Well, I was, but reading about you guys putting the body on the chassis just gave me a big boost of excitement and motivation(dopamine?)!

The dash is starting to grow on me as long as you don't do a Von Dutch on the body.

Thank you, Nick!!! It was so cool seeing the pics of the Econoline from the show over Father's Day weekend.

    Thank ya!

Yes sir! Like my birthday and Christmas rolled up into one weekend. It's really happening.

Hahah love to hear it. Life is long. Who knows how it'll get painted down the line. Oh, and I've always loved the Tom Pollard roadster, which got the Dutch treatment. Screen Shot 2024-06-20 at 11.31.11 PM.png

I was thinking of the van he had at his booth at the Oakland Roadster Show early 60s. It was like his catalog just covered with random samples of his art. Come to think about it, it was pretty cool.
I took my '38 down Lombard a few times. Didn't have any free hands to take pictures with my Brownie.

The van is probably worth big money today! That would be expert mode shooting with the Brownie on Lombard.

I liked every version of Tom’s roadster, then again roadsters are always evolving, I guess.

" then again roadsters are always evolving," True!
Every version of every hot rod is just a snapshot in time unless someone thinks it has special status and "restores" it to its "original" form. Bob Dylan said that once a song is written down it is dead. If you think your rod is finished just sell it to someone and step back. Hot rodding is like all other art forms there is a lot of BS involved.

As you may be able to tell from my lack of updates, I'm on the tail end of a two-week trip home to Michigan. I'll be back in San Francisco this weekend, and I'll have a recap of my Motor City adventures on here soon. In the meantime, here I am with my mom's truck Daisy, Gen riding shotgun, and my favorite hamburger stand of all time: Bates.

Oh, and I usually don't like posting pictures of cars on trailers, but I revisited this one last night and figured it'd be worth sharing here.
