Is that the same Magic Muffler chassis that had the Topolino body or a different car?

Same chassis, Jim Miles swapped his Fiat body with a guy for the Bantam.

Looks like a rare picture after my family sold it and before '68 US Nationals when it was stolen.
I know I am biased...but one of the prettiest cars of the time.

    I love racing!
    But how could I not?
Raised in the back of a Chevy Carry All, sleeping and playing to the sounds and smells of various Northern California drag strips...I remember the day I got to sit in the Jewel "T" and having this beautiful car in my garage! I remeber all the trophies stacked every where and of the World Championship trophy sitting front and center in our living room for a few years. We had a big picture window and the previous homeowner had installed a flood light for the Christmas tree. It illuminated the trophy perfectly! Thennone year after Christmas... it didn't come back out as I remember.

That era was magical. I think alterds and gassers were the heart and soul of those early days..not sure why TV got stuck on just the few that they show but even back then TV didn't seem interested. There is a movie about the '67 Worls Finals that almost completely ignores 4 of the 7 champions. Our car rolled through a shot for 1/2 a second. I don't think our friend and fellow champion Chico Brescini was shown at all.
    Top Fuel
    Top Gas
    Super Stock
Was all that was talked about.
Funny Car seems to have taken the steam out of alterds...
I miss all the great car names!

I saw it run in early August 1968 at Fremont. Had it already been sold then?

Wish they would drop top fuel & make everyone run fuel altered. Funny cars also.

Those days are long gone my friend. The pro classes have been sanitized too much.
Also, if you want the true AA/FA experience... limit the cars to 112". Now that would be a hoot.

Jerry Rushing's all steel and all original '37 Fiat. Jerry was a crew helper on this car (Bowers & Paris) when he was a young teen.

Oh wow - fantastic execution. The only detail I would add is half white / half black painted rear wheels for drag strip use.

Well I’m quoting my own post, and unfortunately no one had the answer. Going back to 1966 or ‘67 I remember a very similar, if not the very same car sitting on the east side of Rt. 83 in an empty field with a for sale sign on it. Too many years have passed and it’s hard to say where it was but it might have been near Rt. 64, (North Ave.) in Elmhurst, IL.
The front wheels were only steel rims, the small block was gone and it wasn’t lettered either.

No empty fields left in that area anymore! No cool old race cars out for sale, either! :(
