I just ordered a bunch of stuff from them the other week and the new catalog shows all the bearings, gaskets and seals needed to rebuild one including the worm gear.

He has tons of stuff not listed in the catalog that he lets folks dig around during the open house when the AACA meet is in Charlotte.

 

Yes they show them in catalog but are not in stock when ordered.

Shoe box central does not have parts for steering box rebuild and cannot get them. I have called them. Don

Here’s my take on building a “Ranchero”.

 

I’m thinking about a 49 Club Coupe.

 

Built this back in the '90s. A $500 '51 Ford old drag car. Reinforced the frame and cut the roof off. 289/c4.

 

I joined the club yesterday! Hood is getting louvered and paint matched.

 

Can’t go wrong with a coupe.

 

My youngest son , he's 32,... guess he didn't get the "Younger crowd don't like old cars memo" is building this shoebox,.. chopped defrenched head lights.. all new floors and lower quarters..

 

I love it! Is that a Cal Custom grill in the car?

 

When I was young, it was a sure sign that someone was serious about customizing their "Shoebox" when they peeled off the "seam caps" on the rear fenders and filled them in.

How random is a chopped 50 Ford cruising down a So Cal street in this day and age?

Prior to the start of the pandemic, I was coming home from a short shopping trip, along with getting some gas in our car. It was a great sunny So Cal day, cold, but nice to say the least. So, I was content to keep driving along. But something caught my eye. It was close to the winter holiday events and it sure seemed like people were in a rush to go somewhere. In my case, just cruising to get back home.

In one of the traffic lanes over toward the center double yellow lines, a cool old car flashed between the slight openings between the huge, white, behemoth van and other cars. It was a lowered grey/black primer old Ford sedan going in the same direction.

So, I took out my digital camera and started shooting from the shoulder, in a point and shoot estimation of where the car was and where it was going. It was a chopped, lowered, cool custom Ford that I had seen a week prior in a grocery store/restaurant complex. At the time, we were both in a rush to get to our destinations and I told myself that I would see the chopped Ford again sometime, someday.

The driving situation in coastal So Cal is full of interesting old cars. On most days on the streets, one will see a hot rod, an old truck or two. But, twice, I saw this custom Ford cruising down the road in the coastal area. As we continued our weekly coastal drives, the back of my mind was this chopped Ford Sedan.

It was a cool looking sedan in the first place, but driving a chopped custom Ford sedan on the So Cal streets as a daily driver was impressive. If it was only one sighting, then sure, a custom chopped Ford sedan out to shake off some cobwebs and possibly, get some new gas.

But during those early pandemic months, we did see it again. So, it must have been a local So Cal resident. Not someone visiting a friend or two. Then my wife saw it from a distance going the other way on another local, coastal street, saying her customarily accurate description, “there is an old hot rod coming the other way, up ahead…”

It has been a long time since we had/have seen the custom chopped sedan again. Perhaps it was getting another makeover to be a daily driver again, like another custom lowered old Buick sedan we saw several times during our coastal cruises. We saw that one sitting on the side of the road. Then on the road, from a far away distance and finally, months later, with some new look paint and stance.

So, did the custom chopped Ford sedan get a make over or is it still in that cool “Ice” grey tone color and still a daily driver. Perhaps, we will see it again, as we expand our weekly coastal cruises to the neighboring cities and attractions. Oceanside/Carlsbad/Encinitas to the South or up to Newport Beach/Huntington Beach coastal areas in the North are short drives.

As Laguna Beach is rolling into the late summer and early fall months and the visitors are getting fewer as the fall school months are fast approaching., the locals may come out to play… or cruise. They are now fair game for future sighting locations of old hot rods on our road trips there. Any oceanfront road trips always gives us clarity for any situation in our clogged up old brains. YRMV

 

Bit of a story on this one in New Zealand. Apparently in nicely painted shape, then had engine issues so was parked up outside for a long time.

Too bad they put them out in the elements and it virtually has destroyed the cars.

 

Here's a pretty cool before and after. This 51 4dr was one of the last cars I got running at a previous job. The car got sold to a guy and he did all this in a little garage with primitive tools.

 

Something a bit different, quite an Australian style here
