Hi All, Engine was stuck and I began the removal and tear down of the engine. I pulled it out and the flywheel did not look right neither did the internals. I’m new to model a's but there wasn’t a clutch pressure plate, or holes drilled for it in the flywheel. I’m a little confused. Here are the pics of the parts in question.
If you provide and engine number I can give you a production date. The E-Brake in front of the shift lever was discontinued in December of 1928.
You will want to get rid of that and go to the later '28-'31 trans and flywheel and clutch, or better yet a lightened later Model A flywheel and a V/8 clutch. Dave
I was just about to say the same thing, My Avatar is a 28 and I've had the multi-clutch and transmission in the garage for 30 years!
One of the reasons for Henry discontinuing the multi-disc clutch is shown here! Rear main oil leakage contaminated the organic discs in between the steel discs, which led to the clutch slipping. The complexity of the clutch and the flywheel casting might have also contributed to its demise. Less is better in this case. Henry was all about manufacturing cost savings.
