Very true and seems you took my own words that I tell others. However, I’m also not the best at actually handling it well when I do make mistakes…

Also, I thought we all just acted like we were perfect on the internet. Maybe I am thinking of some other site for that… :D

  5. Here's to hoping for complete success. :) I really think if he would have had me come do some burnouts, this wouldn't have happened. LOL.

As a small side note.. which probably already known.....
after your intake is on glued and torqued.. you need to shave the gasket lips off with a very small file or you VC's will never seal.
    trial n error here.....

You know, as much as it's a pain to deal with (and then be humble enough to share it with all of us!), it's nice to know that these kind of things happen to others too. The frustrations and problems we each deal with often seem to fall in the "why me?!" category, so it's reassuring to read about the problems of others and remember that it's not just one of us, we all suffer from these kind of problems!

Glad the head gasket was an "easy" fix, and here's hoping for some happy motoring in the near future!

Pressure test the coolant system before firing it see what it looks like . Chances all are good as new , but it’s a simple test

I've done way dumber shit. At least you figured out what did it, that's better than never knowing what mystery malady killed your gasket.

So.again,. somewhere in this thread I mentioned the procedure.
Everyone and their Dad told me it couldn't be done.If there is one thing about me... don't tell me it can't be done..... that just makes me want to do it more. I mean. if we can make a plane fly.... Surely I can make shortys on an FE work in a 57-58-59 Ford.
I simply didn't want god-awful Headers nor was I going to run the Horrible FE flat log style exhaust Manifolds(which would have fit, but Killed any performance.)

So I use a 58 steering box... a simple cut of 1/8 on the frame where the steering box is... slice n push in. re-weld and space is ample.
No notice on the steering box angle or issues... its so very slight.
Now if you're running a 57 box.... thats a different story .... it's just that much bigger to be more of a pain.
Of course. this isn't a 3 hour Saturday afternoon job..... but When I had the sheetmetal off and the FE went in... it literally took less than an hour...but the front sheetmetal was completely off. There was no steering issues, No interference with the Upper A arms, or any issues with the manual clutch linkage.
Is it Tight?.... No different than a Caddy in a 40 Ford.... they are all tight. But not impossible to work on.
Kugel now sells the most beautiful set of shorties... for about $700-$800 bucks.... If I was to do it again.I would buy their new products.... finding a good set of originals is getting harder to find and more than a set of Kugels.
I really wanted to find a set of Factory Ford long tube Headers... and use them.... and of course..again...everyone said "Can't do that" "It won't work"
    Oh yea?... hold my Beer.

But the cost of a good set with no broken bolt ears or cracks or welded up tubes are now upwards of $2500-$3500.... and nobody makes them just due to the fact there is no a big calling.

    So. there is my story.

@Jeff Norwell Thank you!! I had gone through the entire thread but apparently missed what you did.. Being my car is a '58, I already have the '58 box. And I have a pair of original shorties.. and the front end sheetmetal is off..

I need a good 58 box if anyone has an extra.
I have both long and shortie factory headers. The long tube set came out of a 57 300 with a 428. But I don't know what box he had in it, probably 57 as he took them out because rubbing on the steering box.
I would like to put my 406 in my 57 wagon with either set of factory headers.

Well.. all fixed and zero issues... the car is now done...... well. who knows.. but it drives fantastic, pulls like a Freight Train and drives, stops and steers fantastic....
Very Happy with all aspects of the car from start to end... Learned a TON, made a ton of errors too... but with the help of close friends and this place too.... its an ongoing adventure.

Thanks to ALL who lent their support and knowledge..... I truly love this Hobby.
    The END.
