At the shop we checked some brand new Wheel Vintiques and they had as much runout as all the original 80 year old Ford wheels we had too. There’s a guy in Houston that does a good job straightening them out.
Oh im loving the build. Thanks for posting on my post in regards to the i beam drop. Im going to take a look into this bolt in IFS
great thread, ...I remember talking with your dad at several shows as I love the 37-8 Chevies. ..was this car referred to as "purple Hays"?...seems I remember that. That was a very nice car and you are doing your dad proud with the rebuild. ..here's a few pics of the 38 I was driving back when I talked with your dad. (click pics to enlarge)
Yes, Paul Martinez (now runs Rodding USA) did a feature in a 1984 issue of Street Rod Quarterly and ***led it “Purple Hays”. Thank you for the kind words.
Wish I could find my pics of this car from 1984 KKOA Spectacular in Des Moines. Film was expensive, but I took 2 pics, one of the car and one close up of the "piss on Ford" which was hidden when the hood was closed. The alluminum Corvette rallys were OK for the 80's, but I like that you've made it your own with the Auburns on painted steel.
I’ll be the first to admit that as much as I tried to get it right the front wheels are not center in the wheel opening. Not terrible but they need to come forward a little. ****s but I can’t change it now. I mocked everything up the best I could but I did it without the steering rack installed and I think that kept me from seeing the wheels correctly straight ahead.
I don’t notice any issue with the front wheel placement and if you wouldn’t have said anything, I wouldn’t have even thought about it. Oh, and that rubber inside the braided fuel lines deteriorates just like regular lines. But, since you can’t see it, it may actually be more dangerous. I had run that stuff years ago on my Chevelle but replaced it all a while back.
Dan, looks fantastic and nice job! I'm sure your dad would be proud of you keeping it all going so your kids can enjoy the next stage of its life. I'm with Jeff, would have never noticed the front wheels were not exaaaaaactly centered if you hadn't said anything. Congrats on it being back on the road....gotta feel good!
Dan....man if I was you...id sit in that lazy boy and smoke a cigar and look at that beautiful car for hours..
I did for about 10 minutes, then I remembered we’re in the middle of a move! I’m loading on a trailer and taking it to Oklahoma in the morning. That’s why I flogged to get it mostly finished so I could move it in one piece! Thanks for the kind words!
Dan....moving ****s..your build inspires me to work on my stuff...ill get to it soon. Hope your move is easy and uneventful.
Good luck! Moving is rough but at least with you heading north I’m far more likely to see the car than in Texas!
Hey , dan , if you could take a Bigger picture of that interior it's pretty sweet.I'd like to see the cloth insert design
