My 1953 Chev 210 is leaking gear oil from the torque tube. I circled the spot it’s leaking from.
Does replacing the bushing with an Okie bushing repair this leak?
Also, does the torque tube have to be removed from the car?
I’ve seen a few videos and the engine is always out of the car or truck and even my Chevrolet repair manual show the bushing replacement done with the torque tube out of the car in a vice.

There is a leather or rubber seal inside of that between two washers that when you tighten that down it's mushes the seal onto the shaft so maybe just try and tighten up that large nut and see what happens. If not, yes, you will have to undo the torque tube and pull the rear end back to replace it.

No, you don't. The collar slides back, then unbolt the u-joint & drop the tube down. Replace the disintegrated cork with o-rings from your local bearing jobber if you still have one.
Helpful hint : go to Ace Hardware & buy 4 allen head 1/4'' NF bolts to replace the tiny headed ones in there now, & green loc-***e them.

Thanks for both of your replies I’m going to remove the collar and inspect the seals and then make decision what to do next.
