I tend to hit the rockabilly events when they come up. Actually meet and see a lot of interesting people. However I’m not really into the culture, just the cars. We have a big event here in Phoenix in the spring as well as the event in Vegas, haven’t been to that. Vegas is on asphalt so it can get hot. I find the smaller event to be well run and attended.

Can't beat The Scroungers Hot Rod Blowout in Auckland at the Rosebank Speedway, it's usually around the same time as the Beach Hop that's on the other side of the North Island. It's not a regular deal so check if it has been scheduled.
Nothing but traditional cars and bikes etc ...... and the people there are fantastic and very welcoming. Probably about time I went over there again.

Great, thanks for that ..... I probably would've contacted Chris beforehand.
Been to Meremere a couple of times too, great people, cars and place as well.
Do you have any 2025 dates please.

This is from this years blowout, a calculated guess would see next years date as being 30th March ‘25 if it went ahead.

My wife and I toured the country from bottom to top earlier this year. It is a lot like the United States in the 50s and 60s. The South Island is like a huge park, and the small towns are a lot of fun. Mount Cook in the photo is a beautiful place but there are many more. Seeing Burts motorcycle was fun. 7529BDD4-16F2-489D-ABA5-0CFB239DA9D7_1_105_c-resized.jpeg

So, did you hangout on the South Island? If everything is within 2-3 hours best to base out of the North Island. Was finding accommodations difficult?

My wife and I did it in a rental RV one time and it was so good that way because you could stop and move on at your convenience ..... there are plenty of safe sites/places to stop overnight.
We started in Auckland, went up to the top of the North island and then headed South from there. Dropped into the Horopito "Smash Palace" wrecking yard and purchased some '36 Ford parts on the way through.
Took the ferry across to the South island and travelled right down to Bluff Hill lookout, took in the nearby Invercargill hardware store where Burt's bike is displayed, then headed up to Christchurch and returned the RV. We then caught the scenic train ride across to Greymouth on the West coast and hired a car from there and travelled South to the Fox Glaciers and Milford Sound attractions. From there we drove across to Dunedin and then back up to Christchurch and caught a plane home to Sydney.
We had an absolutely fantastic holiday, we couldn't recommend it enough.
BTW. You won't get very far in 2 - 3 hours, the drive North from Auckland to the Bay of Islands is 4 hours without any stoppages, and there will be plenty of scenic stoppages wherever you go.
