My haul. Spent the morning polishing up this old toolbox, spent the afternoon unloading my van. Took me 2 days to get it all loaded, the second day I brought my pickup truck and car trailer, and it was pretty much packed (not pictured). Some cool pieces to keep and use, and lots of resale junk.

image.jpg Hey! I have the same box. Really, it’s there! According to my serial number it’s from ‘65 as I remember.
    Nice haul

That's cool! I wish mine still had that emblem, my emblem was missing. I had a newer chrome Snap-On emblem that I put on there that will just have to do. It weighs a ton, feels like it's full even when empty. I'm quite happy to have it.

Well done, sounds like the goals of getting a return for the family & saving the parts & cars from s**** was successful. Well done & good to see you got something out of it!

  6. I find auction companies are deliberately vague in their pictures and descriptions. Your mind goes to-it likely is good, or it likely will work and away you bid. Squablow, you are a good friend/neighbour. That is very traditional to help with an estate auction in the neighbourhood. Someday instead of a pallet of starters and a pile of fenders, I would like to see a hotrod kit offered for sale- one engine, one transmission, one front end, one body etc to make a whole project. That takes more expertise than just putting all the exhaust manifolds together on one pallet. I just think it would return more and make it easier to buy.

I promise you, they were not being vague, they just didn't know. We tried to feed them all the info we had on each lot but at 2255 lots that can be really tough. We didn't have the history of all that mechanical stuff, and we sure weren't going to hot tank and magnaflux 1000 heads and blocks.

The hard-core buyers were there all day on the inspection day, looking and taking notes. I think that's why it works better than a live auction, at a live event you've only got a couple hours in the morning to check everything out before the bidding starts, with an online setup like this, you can look online and see roughly everything that is there, you get a whole day to check everything out on your list and really inspect it, and then decide what your bids will be and bid later. Plus, a live auction would have had to have at least 2 if not 3 rings going at once, this was much easier to bid on everything a buyer would want. Sure, some people bought stuff and had it shipped to them sight-unseen, which is a risk, but with a live auction, you couldn't do that at all. This gives you options.

I just saw this and looked at the end results. Looks like a lot of giveaway prices. I never seem to luck into those

There was definitely a lot of cheap stuff, of which I bought a pretty large amount. Great for resale, but it wasn't like I had a lot of free space left, so I'm doing my best to put it all away without eating up any of my workspace or parking.

We did our best, but it's hard to find buyers for that huge of a quan***y of stuff also, which I think held back some of the bits that may have done better in a smaller auction.

I find that most auctions like this have some great bargains, but you've got to look at everything first and put in a lot of minimum bids. Out of 2255 items, I had to figure some stuff would go really cheap, so I put in a minimum bid on 611 of those items and ended up with 140. Didn't really need any of it, but it's good resale junk mostly and I can't p*** up a bargain, plus it was my buddy's stuff and I'd like to get it out into circulation again if I can.

It makes me wince when I see people complain about this auction.

You done right by a friend, and his family. You put your own time into something that saved part of our culture from the s****per.

Thankyou Squablow, from afar. You are good people.

    Cheers,

Happy to say the guy who bought the blue Starfire already has it running and is swapping parts from the Dynamic 88 donor car he bought onto the Starfire, and I was able to sell him some of the pieces he needs to complete it out of my stash, and Rachel was also able to provide some different parts he needed out of her pile that she bought.

Great to see one of John's cars already coming together, and to p*** on some of the bits we bought to the right guy.
