Anyone used motorcycle carbs on an inline 4?

  2. I can,t remember everything but a good 50 years ago i had a little Honda sport coupe that had a 4 cylinder engine with four Dellorto carbs. The car even had twin chain final drive in two long enclosed casings. RPM was high :D:oops: speed was,nt

Bike carbs are a pretty popular option on Zetecs, Spitfires, and other engines. Simple tube manifolds work pretty well.
This is our 2.0 Zetec with Kawasaki ZX9 Keihins.

Several years ago I built an MGA with the complete drivetrain from an S10. I used a 4.3 TBI engine with a T5 and a two wheel drive S10 rear with 4x4 S10 wheels to clear the rear fenders. I even adapted the S10 discs to the MGA spindles. A little rocket that would still turn corners.

All these are good using the latest model parts and I know electronics are what we are stuck with but for me with a few exceptions the engine bays are a disaster. Of course 2nd owner trouble shooting follows it spades.
Hey I still like watching and seeing modern hot rodding at its best…

I'm surprised no one mentioned these two as candidates:

Although I'd have gone for a small straight six from Nissan, Toyota or BMW (both had sixes originally).

Love this section. Mercedes M111 engine with 5spd. inline 4 with supercharger, in any early Ford.
Group in England changes the stock intake and exhaust (which apparently chokes it to death)
overdrives the blower slightly and easy 300HP. And did I mention light weight and dirt cheap??

Doesn't look very small, but it is the smallest car Chrysler built in 1948. You get to see the current version, and then the original version of the same car. Then you get the unusually rare chance to see (once it ran, under the hood was never finished, so it is seldom seen by the public) the pretty plane looking 3.9 tb fuel injected V6 that was factory rated at 175 hp. Its backed with a 5 speed manual OD trans, and a 3:55 gear limited slip 8 1/4 rear end with 225 75 R 15 tires on 7" wide wheels.
This car has 100,000 road miles on it and has been in 27 states since the blue and white version first hit the road in 2011.
Its quick enough to be fun, but not fast enough to get me in trouble. It can still get a chirp out of the tires going into 3rd gear. It was never intended to be pretty, just functional.

I have resolved that, in the unlikely event of my ever owning a "Kompressor" Mercedes, I shall remove the "KOMPRESSOR" badge and install "mit HUFFENPUFFER" in the same font in its place.

  16. I like the idea of small car with small engines (or at least realistic size). I like driving them, I also like to have some foot room and as much interior space for things as possible.
I'm keeping it "older tech" still. The Hillman Huskies will get a 181, a 2.0 Pinto and a 2.3 Pinto motors (one already has a 2.3 in it). I've run across (and saved pics) of small cars with newer drive trains, I just can't bring myself to do it to mine....I like the old look of carbs and distributors too much (and don't really care about all out speed).

Here's some pics of old small cars with an appropriate size engines.

This Hillman was grafted onto a Miata spine (with the body removed you're left with a very semi framed I) with drivetrain and suspension from the Miata.
