Party in the front, business in the back? Or something like that. Memorial week-end '96 we all converged on b-i-l's house in Bakersfield for some hard partying. Sat. morning I got sent out to pick up some milk for the kiddos. On my way back I got lost, all those subdivisions look alike, and ended up on a dirt road going nowhere. I p***ed an El Camino parked on the side of the road covered in dust. As I cruised by I noticed the big block flag on the fender and a faded for sale sign that read For Sale or Trade for Harley. I made a Uee to check it out and said to myself, "if that's a four-speed I'm buying it". Sure as **** it was. After some negotiations I came back with my people to transact with his people, 3500 bucks. Of course it didn't run so we towed it to b-i-l's house with the matching 396 in the bed . Fluids changed, new battery, threw on a carb that was on the shelf and drove that ****er to San Francisco. There were no Super Sport Elcos in '67, the big block cars were called Customs, not all Customs were big blocks. BB cars came with a flat hood. I badged it like an SS 396. It was a work truck for 25 years and hauled lumber, made dump runs, drag raced Wed. nights at Sears Point, hauled my surfboard. Still doing the same **** with it although it is needing a refresh.
Love it. Dad gone for milk, returns with a BB Chevy. Enjoying all things late 60's and early 70's on this forum.
I thought you were going to be talking about El Cajon in San Diego county. That is what we called it in my "younger and partier" days.
