I don’t know what size hole you need to drill for your body mounts, but I suggest you look into the HF stepped bits. They gradually increase the hole size and don’t “kick” as bad as say a 1/2” diameter bit.. just a suggestion..

Joey, the day after you posted this, I saw an estate sale listing by my house that had a purple metalflake steering wheel so I had to go! Turns out it was one of the first things gone, I guess. But I did get all of this stuff for 40 bucks! And right by the sale I saw this local “dubliner” neon sign on a trailer in someones driveway. IMG_3629.jpeg IMG_3709.jpeg

Many years ago I was working as a mechanic for the US Border Patrol in El Centro. We had just moved into our new garage and they were adding an I beam track to allow us use a motorized chain fall to store items in our loft. The maintenance guy was drilling mount holes in the I beam track to bolt it to the rafter he had the I beam on a couple of saw horses and was in the process of drilling those holes. Unfortunately, he was drilling the holes with a heavy duty 1/2 inch drill. At the same time he was wearing his shirt with the tails hanging over his Levi's. He bore down on the drill to make the hole when all of a sudden we hear him cussing up a storm. We go over there and find the bottom 6-8 inches of his shirt wrapped around the drill and all other buttons missing up to his collar except the last one that held his collar together. We started laughing at the scene which made him even madder and then this other guy walks over with his hand over his eye. He had been passing by and just stepped inside our shop to get a sip of water from our drinking fountain at the opposite side of the shop. Apparently, one of the buttons flew off with enough force to travel 25 feet and smack him right in the eye! Neither he nor the driller with the modified shirt were very happy how thing came out, but both of us mechanics and my shop chief had great laugh seeing this live action looney toon take place. So, always remember to not wear loose fitting clothes when using a drill, unless you want to ruin a shirt and poke a guy in the eye with a high powered button!

    Hello,

I can see a summer slow down in the Midwest as my wife and I were in the middle of the USA onc summer. From just outside of st. louis our intended target city from the just visited OKC, it was a turn around spot. (we had planned on a month of traveling + photos back east with some sailing thrown in on the Chesapeake and east coast) But, after getting stuck for 2 hours on the roadway from OKC to St. Louis, we gave up, changed course and headed West for Kansas City.

As we found out, summer is the roadway repair or construction zones all over the Midwest and we just got caught up in a massive traffic jam. It was not nice to just sit and move about a foot in 30 minutes. Yikes!

So, on our way west, after a couple of days in Kansas City, we found our quiet time, or another name for a slow down style of traveling. If we wanted to stop anywhere and relax, so be it. That small diner along the side of the road looked inviting, so we had a snack and a nap under a huge tree, farther down the empty roadway.

But as teenagers, school was out, the heat was just starting and we had the whole summer to surf from 5 am to dark along our portion of the So Cal coastline. But, we always planned on longer surf trips to Baja Mexico and more journeys up the coast when the Southern Hemisphere swells were hitting Malibu and other South facing surf spots.

SLOW DOWN? Not during a good “South swell” for us. But, it was challenging to want to surf the best at the dangerous Camp Pendleton surf spots vs the Marines. Or, drive up to Mailbu in the dark, so we could get at least several hours of good empty or fairly empty waves prior to the mad summer rush hour at this popular surf spot. Malibu Surfrider Beach. Throw in a trip or two to our great Baja Mexico surf campout secluded surf spots and we were in a quandary as to a good choice.

Then there was the nightly hot rod cruising and hanging out with the summer crowd at the drive-in locations and definitely afternoons at the local beach hangouts in Long Beach/Belmont Shore/Alamitos Bay.

Yikes, we were now quite busy. Choices, choices, choices… What a dilemma!

Note: The only slow down, currently, is at three time periods of each day. At 7-7:30 am, noon to 1 pm and 4 to 5 pm. If one lives near businesses and/or industrial buildings, the flow is guaranteed for those hours. For the summer, the schools are empty, so, that added flow is non existent. It definitely helps to know who, what and when, during the rest of the year for enjoyable cruising to the beach or harbor. YRMV

Drill a pilot hole or two before you drill to the desired size hole. That helps save your body parts, along with the other posted advice.
Fricano’s is an amazing experience. From the aroma emanating from the kitchen, which you will smell within fifty yards of the restaurant, to the hordes making their way through the neighborhood, letting you know you’re on to something good.
