The 10-day forecast on the news tonight has the weather in a comfortable 70s range. 2-hour drive from the Dells area so weather permitting I may cruise down Friday or Saturday. My friend Gary and his son Jerod run Jerod's Underdog 2 1932 Batum roadster at these events. Last year was a pretty good turnout on Saturday. Miss the Meltdown events, a lot of the friends I had on here I got to know through the Meltdown events. Most have left here once that event died. Miss the BS and bench racing. Larry

  4. Dad and I will have both of our cars as usual. I too mis the Meltdown drags. Even spending the first two days of the event working the pit entry gate the last 5 years of Meltdown was fun. 210559274_10218432664828268_2509826227190162773_n.jpg

Wow. A buddy and I went this afternoon. The show was a lot smaller than previous years. No car show area. Swap meet about half size, with a lot of empty space. Nobody pitting on the west side grassy area.

Still a lot of good action on the track. Not complaining, just surprised.

  6. David,...you are absolutly right, Friday just didn't feel rite, less of everything and weather was about perfect for a change.
Saturday was more like normal with more race cars, lots bigger swap and so-so car show (car show area was in the pits just north of the timing tower.
    Saturday was lots better.
Today (Sunday) there's a hot rod & Harley show with trophies, but I'm not going to that.
we all had a good time there, saw lots of friends...

Cool pics - thanks for posting. Maybe the count is down some, but to me car counts aren't everything. Smaller events can be just as much fun. I've been to Byron Dragway several times both for the Meltdown and Hot Rod Drag Week. I really like that place and hope to get back there again fairly soon. Great facility.

  10. I thought Friday was quieter than previous years.
    Good, competitive races!

Like this one - sorta reminds me of the late "Firesuit Phil's" old coupe. Looks like it could be a survivor? Any idea?
    Thanks, keep the pics comin'!

  13. Glory Days was a fun event, as i usualy do. My wife made this year special by inviting a bunch of family and friends to celibrate my 50th birthday. This was a great suprise too me.
On to the elephant in the room, but the car count being way down. There were less then 90 race cars Friday. for historical prospective Meltdown 2 had the about the same car count. Noticably absent were lare racing groups like Nostalgia Superstock inc, Great lakes Gassers, and the Nostalgia Gassers. The Brew City Gassers and Illinois Outlaw Gassers had a shootout between the small number of cars in attendance for each group (about 18 total cars between them). The problem with low car counts is this will also lead to reduced spectator attendance, eventualy leading to no more Glory Days. I sincerrly hope this issue is addressed before next years event if there is even one.

Does anybody know who the photographers were at Byron Saturday? I spoke to one photographer about pictures of both mine and Dads cars. She took down my email address to share the pics, but I hav yet to hear from her.

  14. I think the Nostalgia Super Stock guys were at US41 that weekend.

  15. From talking to one of the Brew City guys, there was no comunication between them and Byron managment proir to the event. I have no idea where the breakdown in communication happened, but it happened.

Im glad we got a chance to chat friday Phil.

  16. myself and my club members who were there had a good time; we all hope the track continues this event and tries to do as the former track owner did by talking to the different drag groups before the event and maybe offer a discount if each group brings a bunch of cars.
I heard today that there was hardly any communication from the track owners or the drag groups,...lack of communication on both ends.

  17. Rusty, we are on the same page here. The Glory days is one of my favorit events of the summer, even with the shrinking car count, I would hate to loose this event.
