Hello. Does anyone know what the proper size spare tire should be for a 1955 Ford Country Sedan wagon? I never had one to begin with, although I did have a rim. I recently purchased a tire to use for a spare based on the same size currently on the car: 225/R75-15. Unfortunately, it was too fat to fit under the cover of the spare tire well.

If my information is correct, original tire size was 7:10 X 15. for the wagon. The radial equivalent is 215-75 per a chart I have.

Most of the tire charts that list "equivalent" modern replacements are based on load carrying and height. Nothing is going to be as narrow as the original tire or even wheel. The best you can do now without going to a lot of expense is to find a modern temporary spare that fits the cars 5 on 4.5" (or 114.3 metric) bolt circle. There are many newer cars that use these bolt circles and most wrecking yards sell them very cheap. Just find one about the same diameter and keep it inflated to spec and you should be good to go! I have one of those temporary spares for my wagon. Fits nice in the tire well with room for tools, etc. I got it from a s****yard, not sure what it came from but it fits.

  5. The 7.10 was optional, the 'standard' size was the 6.70. I've still got the original Firestone 'Super Balloon' 6.70 spare that came with my Ranch Wagon...
The 7.10 may have been standard on the 9 p***enger version.

the radial equivalent of a 670-15 would be 205-15 which might work in the storage area.

The "donut" I use for a spare in my Custom is from a Lincoln Town Car. Not sure of the year car I took them from. They also work great as a roll-around wheel and tire when your build is not ready for the final tires yet. The Lincoln town car had 16" tire, btw, which makes the donuts a little closer to the diameters we need. they were 5 bucks each.

I would try one from a 90s Crown Victoria it has the correct bolt pattern but may be a 16" tire.

I’d use a stock wheel and tire if I had one. (Mine does). A trailer rim is very close to stock if you can get a 5 on 4-1/2” pattern. A 205-75 is close for 670 and a 215-75 for a 710…. Trailer tires are 85 series but not advisable on any automobile.
