Bought a 28/29 roadster last week. It needs some rough stuff massaged and replaced but it’s a good start. It does have a sweet running flathead in it. I was told 49-53? With a 3 speed ford box and a banjo rear end. The steering arms and tie rod need immediate attention also and I could use some guidance. What are these spindles and what arms do i need to get the tie rod above split bones? Thanks guys.
Looks like a perfect roadster to me!! I dont know about the suspension stuff, but the V8 does look like a '49-53 unit.
Looks like you've got the early 39 to 41 Ford spindles with After market bolt on steering arms. It looks like they have the medium drop to them. You could perhaps get arms with more drop or just get regular flat type arms and go above the wishbones, as it looks like you have room.
Johnny Law etc. axle. I'd throw that in the danger Will Robinson dumpster asap. Which makes me think there may be more to study on this car in the way of not-so-good building practices. Including parts sources. Be careful.
Yes, get rid of that axle ASAP. Spindles are repro 37-41. Most vendors arms should bolt up. I highly recommend using real tie rod ends rather than heims.
I noticed that the front tires are temporary spares, probably not what you want to keep on it once roadworthy.
Agree 100% about that axle; cut it up so no one else gets killed behind it. If you put the tie rod above the bones you might have frame interference issues. Nice bit of raw material with lots of potential; keep at it.
I was afraid that axle was junk. I have a couple of stock model a axles around here somewhere. May need to send one to Okie Joe to drop. Unless someone in Thanks for the info. Real tie rod ends and a new axle are in the plans.
I picked up both of these axles. The black one is an original dropped ford. The chrome axle is dropped more. I’m not sure of its lineage? Any preference to one more than the other?
Looks like the black one is a dropped A or a 33-36. The chrome one looks like a dropped 37-40. The later one probably won’t work with the spring you have.
