Hot Rods 1932 Ford Model B rear transmission mount

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Donald N Wemple Jr., Jul 15, 2024.

  1. Hi, I just purchased a 1932 Ford Model B 3 speed transmission for a sprint car project. I am missing the rear transmission mount assembly as it did not come with the transmission. As this will be going in a period 1940's sprint car with a 1932 Model B motor and I believe a 1939 closed shaft. rear end. Are there any years that interchange for my application as I will not need the rear mounting holes? Th a nks.

The `32 "B" or V8 rear trans mount with the rubber cast in place is available as a new reproduction.
Try Third Gen. in Tennessee, phone them at 844-327-5988

The 1932 rectangle plate is reproduced with the rubber ring cast on it. Then you need the original cast iron inner piece and a round steel backer ring, and the four special L bolts. These parts are the same from 32 thru 36.

Or since it’s a racecar you can use any rear mount from ‘32-48. I would probably grab a broken ‘37-41 out of my scrap pile & cut the ears off.

Guess I should have read all the words. Any rear mount from passenger and light commercial trucks from 32 thru 48 will bolt up to that transmission. Only difference between them is the way they sit into the crossmember. If you don’t care about the mounts, any will work.

I think most A & B powered sprint cars back in the day used Model A transmissions and U joint attachment parts, mine did.

  7. O.K. Thanks for the replies. Got the transmission in a box. So assuming I am missing all the bolts and goodies from the back of the case out. I will go thru the pieces in the next few days to see if I have anything pertaining to the rear mount ( bolts or the cast plate as you suggested. I do have a Model A transmission and was going to modify the B oil pan using the A box but this B box came up. The sprint car is a believe 26 T chassis and have several holes on the rails I will try and match up holes to powertrain. My 37 Midget had a V-8 60 with a Model A transmission gutted with only high gear. They cut the back of the engine bell housing off flush with the block and she had a spud on the end of the crank for the Model A pilot bushing and splines. Without a flywheel she ran right up quickly. Thank you forum.

  10. Hi, Got most of the photos off our other computer. Will install them in my laptop and send out later. They were buried in amongst 32,000 photos in the other computer. Have to sort out car photos from all other subjects.

  11. O.K. Lets give this a try. Second photo is of my 37 Chevy coupe changed to a pavement modified. 5th photo is of it when I got it. Was the 70NY driver was Ernie Reid. Bought it in 1988 and was sold in 2000. It is owned by a guy from the Garden State Stock car club now. First photo is of my Midget. Bought in early 1980's and restored by me. Sold in 2000. Built and raced by Cecil Cleese. Whereabouts unknown at this time. Third photo is of a Austin American midget, Built at the Watervliet Arsenal about 1936. Raced at Burden Lake, Hollywood Speed bowl, Shippy's Speedway. All local tracks near here. Was told one of the earliest midgets left from New York State. Sold to a Austin collector in California. Forth and fifth is of a circa 1920's 2 man junk car formula race car from around Rochester Minn. Was told belonged to an old time racer somewhere around Rochester area. Got very little of it and have been piecing it back for 12 years now. Getting it ready for paint. And the 1 man sprint car I will find photo of. It is hiding somewhere in my files. Will get it posted. Enjoy.

B engine and transmission for it. Working over body at the moment. Possibly from Chicago area.
