Don't get me wrong, some nice cars, but when you park them next to 2024 GMC 4wds, and Mom and pop family cars with power tour stickers on them ... mentally it's a mess. And you wonder why would you pay to participate?

I’ve not driven the HRPT but have gone to the daily destination venue a few times when it’s been reasonably close by. If you expect all H.A.M.B. cars you will be disappointed. I would say it’s more like the mix of a local car show except there are hundreds of cars. I have always enjoyed myself, people were fun and very eager to talk about the day’s experiences. Look at what you like walk past the ones you don’t. These folks are out using/driving their cars and having fun. It’s on the list I would like to do either a couple legs or the long haul.

  3. I’ll park mine next to the pope mobile.
Those grocery getters are sometimes good sources for parts. Bought cool sbc stuff from LS guys.

Blue Suede Cruise at Norwalk is a far better show. Lots of street driven cars on one side. They don't allow trailers on show side. You can park across from show area, but encourage street driven rides. Competition Nostalgia racing on pit side. A nice mix as well as passenger rides in your ride with helmets. We're bringing more cars to the event this year, driving em in.

My brother might drive the parts chaser truck, see what it can do in qtr.

Any hot rod that's road worthy & can handle the traffic jams is a good one to run. There's nice cars, beaters, and stuff that doesn't belong on P.T.,, but ignore what you don't like & have fun.

Like all events like HRPT once it become more popular itrows into a mass of participants. Then you have the commercial aspect. Too many cars and too many people. One example of the last 30 plus years is Hot August Night held in Reno. I remember going in 1990. Yes it was busy at the time, probably 5000 participants but there was many venues available such as an auction, various community cruise-ins, the car corral and the downtown cruise. Now, you have to get on a waiting list to register. Not sure what the limit is now but virtually impossible to get into the event as a registered participant. Basicly it’s now a big time money maker for the businesses, casinos and communities in the Reno area.

A group that interested me in the past few years is the Rolling Bones. They make an annual drive from the east coast to Bonneville for speed week. All their cars are HAMB relatable and yes they have people pick up the caravan along the route they take. I’m sure they’d be more that happy to have other hot rodders participate. Not sure they would want a late model Camero or Mustang clubs tag along or even muscle cars tag along.

  11. I could not agree more. I've been asked quite a few times "can I go on the COeNVOY with xxx". "I'm sorry it's COEs only". Although, I did invite a guy with an A100 pickup cuz technically the cab is over the engine. :) But the whole idea is to keep it one type of vehicle and fairly small. The day 1 start and day 3 museum are the only stops that are not an event that was already scheduled for the public.

We'll see what happens this year and if there will be a 2nd annual. But the plan is not to create some giant event that would take teams of people to set up and manage. It's just me doing this. If some big sponsor contacted me, what would I say to them? First, I don't think that will happen since we are never talking about thousands (or even hundreds) of participants. Second, there just aren't that many COEs, IMHO.

It will be VERY interesting to see how many show up... I don't have a good feel for it...

That’s true but if not part of the group you are kinda excluded from the groups activities

  15. Nope, I certainly can't stop anyone from following along but the starting point is only going to be sent to those that sign up. Can someone join at one of the published venues? Sure but he's right, no sticker for you. :)

I’ve given it some thought about meeting the Rolling Bones caravan at some point on their route. Maybe somewhere in Wyoming then following them west. Be kinda fun to just tag along and maybe help out with breakdowns. Even though my 52 Dodge PU doesn’t fit the theme and era of their cars it would fit in better than a late model car.

The Hot Rod Power Tour sounds like an awesome trip if you’re into classics and customs. From my experience, it’s usually a great mix of everything—plenty of hot rods and classic cars, but also some modern muscle and trucks. Last year, I was on a road trip and found some incredible deals on the cheapest business class airlines for the flights. It made the whole journey a lot more enjoyable, knowing I had a comfy ride to and from the tour.
