Wiper motor decided to quit on my 63 Fairlane, troubleshooting info has been hard to find online, I’m hoping someone has done some troubleshooting , power to the motor, grounded properly, took the motor out, I can energize the field , but motor will not move at all. Clicking within if I jump the other two connections. Brushes are good, armature is clean. There is so little info about this motor anywhere… any motor upgrade anyone has done? Many thanks

Do you have the factory shop manual for the car? I have a 62 corvette, and have the factory manuals, and it gives complete troubleshooting and overhaul information about the wiper motor. But then, it's not a Ford.

No, have not been able to find any factory service manual, pretty much nonexistent

huh, there are several 1962 used original manuals, and 1963 supplements, on ebay right now. Not expensive.

    What Jim said.
Wipers are the one thing that really messes with people's heads where electrical is concerned.

They have constant power. When you hit the switch, it supplies ground to a set of contacts inside to start the motor.

When the motor is triggered, it moves out of the park position and closes a contact that supplies that ground through another set of contacts UNTIL it's at the park position, then those contacts open, shutting off the internal ground circuit. If the switch is still on, it supplies the ground and it keeps moving. If you shut off the switch, the switch ground is not provided, but the internal contact stays closed, supplying ground until it reaches park, then opens. They typically don't show the mechanical switch inside that opens the ground circuit for park.

The ones that back up to park are even more complex.

I did see a number of comments on the 63-65 wipers, and how the motors are rebuilt and upgraded.
There was also mention that trying to turn the wiper can cause internal damage, probably to that internal switch.

Maybe @67drake has the 62 Fairlane shop manual and could scan a few pages?

If nothing else, have you looked into Newport Engineering, they make wiper motors for a lot of older rigs...just a thought.

I think the wiper motor set up is the same from 63-65? This is the 65 manual

That is amazing thank you! I’ve tested this motor every way possible and I can only energize the field , motor is magnetized but does not turn, only clicks internally. Again thanks for the pages!

Many thanks, with all the help here, sadly all the testing points to a dead short in the motor.
Just have to figure out how to get the armature out…..cheers
