A couple of scans from some Kodachrome slides of my aunt and uncle's wedding. My dad took these in 1951 and I'm always amazed that those slides have held up so well after that many years. The first shot looks like a big Chrysler or Dodge of some sort. The second shot appears to be a Pontiac Silver Streak and that was my dad's Morris Minor parked across the street.

We got married Aug 16, 1969 which happens to be the Saturday of Woodstock. I was on my way from Washington to Texas the week before and kept meeting up with hippies who were saying that they were headed east to a big concert.
My car was OT for here but my wife's extended family decorated it up and as long as I had it the Just married that they put on the back window showed up on a misty day.

    Great thread!!
We didn’t decorate it much but this was the getaway car when Becky and I got married.

And this was the cake top!

The hood was propped open, there was a groom sitting on their “just married”suitcase with his head in his hands and the bride with her thumb out hitchhiking.
I have the real wedding pictures around somewhere.

    Hello,

Since we were in a group of now 20 somethings that had gone through teenage shenanigans together, it was open war on our cars. We had decorated one of our friend’s cars with the similar inappropriate slogans and risqué marks with white shoe polish. So, what damage to the car’s paint was of no concern to us. We all chuckled at the sneaky decorating of the car while our friend was at work.

We told him we were going to give him a detail wax and cleaning on his cruiser. Including the tires and windows. He actually fell for it. So, it came back shiny, but on the next day prior to his wedding, it got the standard wedding jokes written in white all over his black and white 55 chevy two door sedan. He was so nervous that he did not see the car until they walked out under an air attack of thrown rice pellets. Then he smiled and actually laughed at the sight of his “pristine” 55 chevy sedan. Streamers from the bumper, white painted slogans all over and yes, “tin cans” tied to the chrome rear bumper.

So, for our wedding, my wife and I decided not to get a huge church wedding despite the protests from all family members. We decided to keep the wedding guests to a minimum and have it at my wife’s house. It was a very low key ceremony in her living room. No one knew where she lived, so our El Camino was safe from shenanigans. My friend and his wife had his 55 chevy, but decided not to be the only one to decorate my 65 El Camino.

But, just in case, I parked it in my wife’s garage with a lock and key to the door in my pocket. Ha!

When our friends were all notified of our wedding, plans were moving for a big surprise for our car. But, since no one could find it, we were relatively safe. But, our reception for the friends and families was scheduled for a restaurant in Los Angeles. They all knew where it was and so, we drove to the restaurant in my wife’s mom’s Chevy sedan. Now, no one knew about the Chevy sedan and despite looking for the red 65 El Camino. It was a mystery. Ha !!! Planning ahead worked for us in many ways… YRMV

I just saw your post, and I can't help but wonder: Those wedding car pics are stunning! I love how couples get creative when decorating their rides. It adds such a personal touch to the big day. My favorite is matching the car decor with the wedding theme—they planned every detail perfectly. If you're into wedding vibes, you might want to check out https://www.gentlemansguru.com/product-category/wedding-tuxedos/ for some cl***y tuxedos. They've got a sumptuous selection that'll suit any groom's style. I can't wait to see more pics—getting inspired by others' ideas is always fun!

Our club the "Bel Airs" had several members get married, and we had a line up of 55-57 Chevies every time! 1975-1987 mark_557_4 001.jpg JC_11.jpg JC_6.jpg

A mild custom 1958 Chevy Impala wedding getaway car...

    Hello,
This cool photo of the White 1958 Impala is the only photo I can find of an Impala in a wedding. We have photos of our 1958 black Impala with the two brothers going to a friend’s wedding, but not decorated or set up like a wedding car.
    upload_2024-11-13_2-51-11.png
a nicely polished version and a couple of well dressed teens... Not as if we just pulled out of the local Lion's Dragstrip action.

When my wife and I got married, someone put on stringers and a couple of cans on a string as a joke. (My wife’s brother/sister) Since it was under lock and key in my wife’s garage, none of my old teenage friends knew of the location. The only person we knew was my wife’s brother, But, it was on our 65 red El Camino, not the Impala. Her sister was in the wedding, so she could not have done the minor decorating. ha!
No photos of that El Camino as we were headed for an “after the wedding party” in Los Angeles and took off the cans/streamers.

The 1958 Impala was the transportation to many weddings of friends of my brother and other families ***ociated with our nearby relatives. By the time my friends were getting married, the Impala was gone and it was a 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery that showed up for photos and the ceremonies.

Much to the chuckles of the sedan delivery versus their staid, Chevy/Ford/Chrysler sedans… ha! But, we all ran in different circles, as I was the only guy still surfing and involved in hot rods. YRMV

Update, car is yellow and we used it in our wedding also. My cousin still had my uncle's old camera, our photographer was able to recapture that. Our 40 is next to it and we had parking in front for the guests who brought old cars also. Kaitlyn&NickWedding-415.jpg Kaitlyn&NickWedding-290.jpg Kaitlyn&NickWedding-294.jpg
