I have it Spitfire head for the 25" Chrysler engine. Should make it look faster.

just found this, a year later... this board is just too big for me to keep up with.

anyway, here's a triple carb independant runner setup with equal lenght headers that i used to run on my 23" block in the 40 Plymouth.

i swapped the 23" block for a 25" 265 block, fully built and bored out to 283cui

the old setup lives on in a friend's circle track racer that i built an engine for,
a bored out 230 dodge block with a wild cam

it is 120 over, bored and honed with a torque plate,
zero decked, ported and relieved, 5 angle valve seats,
has custom forged JE pistons, the longer DeSoto 236 rods,
a 260° (222° @.050) .417 lift cam in it, Edgy aluminum head from MoparMontana,
all ARP bolts and studs, a full flow oil filter conversion,
Asche triple intake with D6A1 Carter B&Bs, custom made air cleaner housings,
a 123ignition conversion with spark enhancer and high output coil, 11" clutch
and a million other tiny things i already forgot because
it drove me to the edge of madness

....hey Fred, glad you showed up! Better late than never:D I had the pleasure of lending a hand at shoehorning the big Chrysler back into that little Plymouth. Not that I did anything important, just a matter of wrong time, wrong place:D

Fred, I don´t remember it. I do remember that beer was involved...which took the edges off of that fight:D

it idles pretty nice, although the cam and clutch are a little on the agressive side for inner city traffic here in Berlin.
it tended to foul the plugs when lugging around in low rpm ranges, i switched to hotter Champions and now i'm good.
i used to have a 3.54 third member in it, but switched back to a 4.11 and that really woke it up.
the cam starts to ramp in at a little under 3000rpm and then pulls really hard up to 5000
(i do not dare to rev higher because at that point we are at 20m/s in piston speed i don't want to window the block, after all it has 4 3/4" stroke if i remember correctly)and that's were i set the limiter at.
since i have had transmission troubles for the last years (and too many other toys to tinker with) plus became a dad in 2020
i have not driven it too far, but i am on it right now and plan to have it ready for the season.
the Borg Warner OD plagued me with horrible driveline vibrations, so i had to switch back to the old non OD 3speed,
which seems to have a shot syncro, and you really do not get anyone to help with these things around here,
so i guess i'll have to order stuff and tear into it myself.
it has a 180°F thermostat in it and a rebuilt factory radiator which has a pressurized cap now and it does not get too hot so far.
oil pressure and temp are mint and i had the bearing clearances set for it to run
modern 10W-60 oil for safety, with a huge screw on type oil filter that is located in the left wheel housing behind the front wheel now.
it is pretty powerful, keeping in mind that it is an N/A sidevalve engine,
nowhere near a well built OHV V8, but it puts out more than enough
to overpower the chassis and brakes that it has...
when it really starts screaming above 3000 and you hear the 3 carbs pulling in the air it raises the hair on your arms, and that's all i want from it i guess :)

here is a video of the car idling when the engine in its current iteration was just put in a few years ago

it was not fine tuned then and the tach wasn't installed yet,
but it give s a pretty good idea how it runs

and this is a short video of the circle track racer running,
we rev it up to 5500rpm during a race
(snapped the cam in half though last season and now it gets the same grind as the big engine has),
sounds nice and choppy and revs like a chainsaw

unfortunately youtube somehow declares it a "short" and those can't be embedded here, sorry.

I went for a ride in George Asche's personal Mopar (can't remember model sedan ) six speed (O.D. in each three gears ) and it set me back in the seat. If I were building a Mopar six I would duplicate what George did. It was VERY impressive

GEORGE took me for a ride too!......I swear we were in 2nd gear going better than 50mph.
George is a genius with MoPar flatheads.
He had parts to rebuild my 1939 Chrysler overdrive transmission.

Hey Capt Fred, what was the process for fitting the longer block into the car? I've got a 265 I'm considering swapping into my 48 Plymouth. Thanks

I don’t know if 48s have the holes for the 23” and 25” engines drilled in the front crossmember. But that’s easy. Might just have to section the radiator to push it forward.
I’m doing the same thing he’s done on my 39
