Where did that coupe come from? It wasn’t South Dakota was it?

I bought it from a guy out of Albany, Oregon. I think he said him, and his friends did the section.

My plan is to adapt a 1961 Thunderbird interior. Since it’s sectioned, that will make it easier. IMG_7276.jpeg IMG_7279.jpeg

In post #38 I posted that a stock door is 32" from bottom of glass opening to bottom edge of door. So what you measure?

I don’t think it’s landed in his driveway yet.

No, it’s in my driveway. Problem is, I’m not in my driveway. I’m in Branson for the weekend.

You get to working on that, I'm kind of a homie who wouldn't mind seeing it.

Okay, HAMBer “The Chevy Pope” will be taking it to Missouri sometime soon to finish the section welding and get it into stage one. We will keep moving as time and money allows.

I think this is a well known car, one of my favorite 50 Fords. I like the lighter color highlights. Somebody please tell me the owner, who built it, etc. It’s probably been covered here on the HAMB before. I could imagine how this paint job is done, but not sure. I would lay down the lighter color, then the darker color, and then sand down into the lighter. Maybe I’m wrong. IMG_7316.jpeg

I think this is a serious deep candy paint job.

  17. Marcos Garcia at Lucky 7 built the Car. He is one of the top custom painters out there. Absolutely no sanding involved in the paint it is a bunch of different candy and pearl toners sprayed out in a faded blend. Not for the faint of heart or pocket book. Blended paint work like that takes a ton of skill and guys can and will charge a fortune for it.
    Owner is Brian Bozzo.

is this basically what gene and watson were known for?

  20. Gene is definitely known for his fade paint jobs. Larry was more know for flames and panel paint jobs on HAMB era cars. Most of his fade jobs seemed to be on 60's sports cars.

Man... this would be a perfect Matt Seret job.

This is going to be really neat.

Yeah, Gene Winfield was one of my heroes since I saw his work as a kid in the 70s. I might have it done down the middle from the hood to the trunk, but I like the way this brown one has those certain areas highlighted.

One more thing there are tons of front end options. I will certainly use the ‘50 Mercury grill surround sheet metal. With what shall I fill that opening? First option is a 54 Pontiac floating grill bar because I have it on hand and they generally look pretty good. Of course I could fill it with 53 De Soto teeth. I really want something that’s one of a kind. I will probably install this Pontiac grill bar and do some imagineering to come up with something more show worthy.

  24. You might want to spell your hero's name correctly. :D
This shows how the fade was laid out a bit better. Crazy impressive paint skills involved in a fade like this. I would bet the paint job alone on this car is north of $20,000.

And here is the basics of it in a sprayout.

I’ve been relying too heavily on talk to text. I fixed it.

I know if I want to get serious about building a show winner I am gonna have to come up with the cash. My health problems are pretty much in the past. I’ve got a new job set up where I can make extra money from time to time. It might just happen. I guess if you’d rather I spend it on a boat …

I think the merc opening and Pontiac grill bar would be killer.

Did the original builder also have a completed '40 Ford tudor that was black and sectioned also ?

I really don’t know much about the previous owner. He had more Pro touring type of thing in mind. I think he just saw one like that in the magazine and wanted to do it. I know which one he’s talking about, but I don’t think I can post that picture here.

Tim, The thing about this car being sectioned, is that there’s a lot less room to work with in the grill area. I think that Pontiac grill fill this one better than the stock Merc opening. Imagine 2 1/4 inches missing above and below the grill in this picture

    It should fit really well...

  30. I think by the time you put a '50 Merc surround in you are going to have very little room to work with for a grill. I would imagine both the Pontiac and Desoto options will overwhelm the space you are left with.
