Anyone planning to attend this year? I couldn’t find another thread on it, looks like rain early in the week, hopefully clears out before the show.

Of course, it has rained there before.

If the planets align this week, I’m going to give it a try. Both vehicles are ready. I ‘ll be in one or the other. I usually park out in the grass between the Expo building and the Swapmeet area. Safe travels everyone.

For all the people who have never been to the Street Rod Nationals and don't realize just how big it is, here is a picture of it from above. This was in their magazine for October 2015, and it didn't get everything in the picture. This must have been a Thursday or Friday picture, as Saturday will be even more packed. Had to make it 2 pictures as my scanner could not do it in one scan. If you own or can borrow a scooter, bring it as you can't walk this whole show. They rent some $$ but often are sold out. There is a bunch of shuttle buses circuiting the place and shuttles to bring people from the parking lot (not shown) to the gate.

Yes, I was there and it was very hot and some rain but it was like once a day and didn't last real long. Did you see this out at the swap meet ?

And a guy I met last year made himself a Snapper Scooter for this year.

Also, I wanted to post these pictures of a T bucket built by a friend I made at the Nationals several years ago. Super nice and knowledgeable guy. I went inside to take a look at the car he entered in the pro build section and I was absolutely overwhelmed by the quality of his (and his son's) T. He had told me that abso0lutely nothing on the car had been installed without some measure of refinement......but I was shocked that it looked so great. So I want to give him credit for being not only a quality hot rod builder, but a quality guy.

Look for yourself, its beautiful ! (Hit the enlarge by putting your mouse on pic and tapping it)

Honestly, my pictures don't give justice to the quality of this T.............

That T-Bucket was amazing, I took a bunch of pics of it that I need to download from my camera. Beautiful build.

I heard a rumor that due to the fact that they let in a lot of newer stuff for the 30 year rule they have changed the name to the Hot Rod Nationals. Seen some videos with that name, any body know?

Well, still calling it the Street Rod Nationals is pretty much of a stretch. Maybe the could call it the Collector Car & Newer Nationals!

If you have some good pics, please post them. Mine just really don't show how great this car is.

Your pictures turned out nice, you really need to see that car in person to capture all the detail. I'll post what I took soon.

Call it whatever makes you happy, all I know is that I and about 40,000 of my closest friends had a nice time, enjoyed seeing myriad numbers of variations in how to build hot rods, got roasted in the parking lot and chilled in the vendor display building, and had a memorable weekend...........

Yep, young guys emulating the old stuff and havin fun........ (hit enlarge)

I attended the Holley seminar on how to install electronic fuel injection ..........every seat was taken and there were some who had to stand.............and I bet everyone of them was 50+ years old.

Here is the handout that they used to show vendor locations. They still had Street Rod Nationals printed on it.

They do but really the percentage of street rods has declined. Now, you see more pony cars, muscle cars, pickups, etc. That's just the way it is. I still enjoy going. You are correct about the scooter. We walked 2 days and rode on Saturday so that we could cruise it all.

Great show, I love the mix since my first passion is MoPar Muscle cars, then Corvettes but also love traditional hot rods and customs. Great mix and a good way to bring new blood into the hobby. I walked 7.6 miles Saturday checking out the show and loved every minute of it. Kind of reminds me of a larger version of the great cruise-ins we attended in the 70s and 80s when I was growing up, fun times.

  26. I doubt if they would change the name to that. Hot Rod Magazine used to have the Hot Rod Nationals. I attended a few of them. They or Motor Trend, probably still hold the rights to that name.

Edit: I just checked, looks like my memory was a little off. The ones, in the 1980's I went to, Hot Rod Magazine called them the Hot Rod Super Nationals.

I was there for the week and was happy I could still make it. Yea there are cars that don't knock my socks off but that's true at any show. I just cruise on by the ones that I don't care for and spend time at the ones that do. Talking with folks that have the same tastes as you do is always enjoyable and making friendships is a plus. I will keep going as long as I can no matter what they call it. I know too many who can't make it any more for what ever reason and it's sad. Just my 2 cents. Now getting ready to head back that direction for the Tri 5 Nats.

  28. I can remember if one tried to get in any of the "NATS" with a '49 and newer they kicked you out.

Sure, if I had my druthers, I'd like to see 10,000 pre 50 vehicles, but many of the original Hot Rodders have health problems and quite a few are no longer with us. You have to be realistic that this is a BIG event, and it must attract sufficient people to pay for all the space and people needed to make it happen. There is plenty there to enjoy no matter what anyone's tastes are. When you go to a concert, do they only sing the songs you like? When you go to a race, do they only race the classes or cars you enjoy? When you go to a movie, do you always like all the actors, or just some of them?
Even if you ride a scooter at the event, you will not see every car, every vendor, or every seminar..........You will however find many people willing to talk and share info and even make a few friends. It's not perfect from my perspective, but I find it well worth my time every year.:)
And then there are the discounts.....Just placed an order with Summit and saved $170.
