So several years back I built the weathervane in the background while the roadster was at the upholsterer. Now I'm waiting on some front end components for my 1936 Cord project and I'm building another weathervane. I'm looking for recommendations for a Wiley Coyote meets Marvin the Martian interstellar color. The dome and fin are silver and the color of the body will need to stand out against the sky (background). Thanks in advance for your ideas. Post color in pic if possible.

I would think that would need to be as close to chrome as you can get it. Maybe just do the body in pegan gold and flake the crap out of it in large silver flake with a white pearle clear over the whole thing when its done!

If that were mine I would do some additional bodywork and clone the Barris Xpak400, or just paint yours pearl white, candy red, candy gold and candy blue, Aliens surely had more imagination than just painting one color

Awesome project! Its great to have some free time for creating a few whimsical features around the homestead.

Yesterday, while driving home from a local car show, we spotted a glistening gold ball far off in the distance. As we got closer we could see that it was a large ball situated on top of a weather vane. On the visibility scale, I would rank that near the top. Maybe some solar powered lights at night would be a nice touch too. Extra points for the revolving lights feature.

I agree with the metal flake green. Heavy on the flake like a bass boat...

1st thing I thought of was a lime green with heavy flake. Seems I'm not the only one. My 59 wagon had that in the dash and kicked ass.
Breaking the green up with white scallops and bronze striping might look good too

  23. Give it a couple of coats of low gloss invisible paint. It's what all those crazy intergalactic teenage hot rodders are painting their space jalopies nowadays. That way the space cops can't see you drag racing on the surface of Neptune.

I'd be careful with chrome or polished. If you've spent any time next to that Airstream in the sun, you know why!
I thought at first the dazzle paint that was used in WWI on boats, but the toy saucers shown by others would be more artistic.
Then if you wanted to get real into the space thing, this could point in another direction.

My wife has melted the outdoor rug next to our Airstream so I won't be going all silver/chrome

    Hello,

One year, during the holiday season, I was making a 15 inch sphere to hang on a monofilament cord that spanned the front yard of our house. From one edge to a tall row of trees. I did not want to any of the cord to show, just the wire-framed round sphere. So, I had a battery powered unit to light up the tiny lights all around the sphere and crisscrossed inside of the sphere.

At night, it lit up like a floating ball out in mid darkness space. It was cool looking and surprised everyone that saw it.

During the day, the only thing that showed hanging in the middle of the sky blue, was a wire colored ball with white corded mini lights not on, but just floating in the air. The blue sky made it look like it was floating.

The color for the saucer can be any dark contrasting color to the blue sky or grey sky, where ever you are. A darker basic color will stand out better than lighter colors against the blue (normally blue) sky. But, if the saucer is going to be on a pole, then hard wiring a couple sets of mini lights would light it up at night.

Since the Saucer will be a weathervane it will pivot full revolutions hard wiring lights is proving a challenge. I have not been able to find an electrical connection that pivots and also has a long term outdoor rating. Solar panels degrade over time also. The saucer will be atop a 28 foot pole so servicing will not be very easy.
