    What type of color cote?
If it’s single stage or two stage base cote you’re going to need to sand first and two stage base cote will need to be reapplied. If you’re careful with catalyzed single stage and don’t break through you can just clear cote over solid colors, metallic and perils not so much. Of course you can sand and reclear clear cote.

Why are you putting clear over single stage?

  6. Clearcoating single stage will actually result in a deeper shine than bc/cc and definitely deeper than just just single stage

And look like crappy plastic modern paint. The exact opposite of what this board is about.

  9. Read the products tech sheet

  10. This isn't a 100 point c1 Corvette restoration forum.......done correctly no one will notice it's clearcoated. And a clearcoated paint job is lower maintenance and easier to repair.

Is your single stage metallic? If so, sanding it will ruin the metallic pattern, so dont do it. If it is not metallic and it is single stage, you should be fine with a scuff and clear on it. Be sure that your sanding grit is fine enough that the scratches will hide with clear. I have sanded gloss black in 600 and cleared it after 1 week and it was fine.
