Another pic of the Holland lead sled spectacular popped up on the kustom blues thread today and it got me thinking why so few on this side of the world? Looking online it seems like most of these shows are in Kansas or Missouri.

  2. It used to travel all over, but now it's stuck in Salina, Kansas, and it's looking like it's going to die there. E

Sort of like the NSRA Nats. Louisville has them locked in now.

Man,, the good old days back in the 80's and 90's when this was a custom car show, these days the customs are far outnumbered by g***ers, stock 50's cars, street rods, rat rods and muscle cars... what a shame

Hopefully, KOA @Voodoojaime and @VooDoo Larry are paying attention to what people are clamoring for. Stay the course...

Those early years were magic to a small town guy from Tennessee. I was there in 82,83,84,85,86,97,98, and 99. Maybe another one or two. Life has prevented any since then. Tornado near Springfield, probably one near Davenport ( based on seeing wood picnic tables flying across the road), and amazingly cool and confortable in Lansing. That and the Merc Deuce Reunions were always fantastic.

We're in discussions and weighing our options on were to hold a KOA event. We'd love to hear your opinions and places of interest on a show. Month ? State ?

So far people from East to West coasts are inquiring on having us come out and do a show. California is pushing hard and wants the first show as this is where George founded the club. We have sponsors from Cali willing to help / support KOA. Any thoughts ????

My suggestion would be to pick a smaller town, a suburb, or a bedroom town. The reason would be that it would be a big deal for a small town and they appreciate the commerce. With that said, lodging can be an issue, so being close enough to a larger town that has hotel accommodations that can support future growth. I like October for shows. I'm not a 108 degree weather guy.

I'm with you on that. No shows when it's that hot. We're thinking of something in Sept. when it starts to cool off. Logistics is a big thing. We'd like to stay near a highway for easy access and plus hotel / food accommodations.

The scenery is key. No one wants to drive through 800 miles of ugly highway. We love to sightsee on our way to the show. It may be the only vacation we get.

I dig the shows in quirky towns and venues.

I would like to see it move. That way it doesn’t get stale. Plus if it moves, it gives guys different options if they live on opposite ends of the planet.

Take all this with a grain of salt. My opinion is just that…..an opinion. I’m sure you guys will do it justice.

I'd have to say that there are to factor involved. For those of us who have to make the cross country road trip It's a distance that we probably won't make annually. It's 1569 miles one way for me one way from my driveway to down town Salina. With that I could continue on to Park City to see one cousin, Moore OK to see another and Waco and Blanco Tx to see my sister in laws. For the guy who just goes straight there for the weekend and straight back it is a long haul.
As for the g***ers and what nots, their entry fees help pay the bills.
Being an official old fart I can tell you that I and my wife don't handle the heat like we did 51 years ago when we took the 48 on it's first rod trot to the 73 Street Rod Nationals in Tulsa or the trip we made back to Texas in 81 in the 48 and hit four runs in three weekends. She got the bottoms of her feet sunburned in 73 when we drove South From Tulsa to McGregor and she was asleep with her head on my leg and her feet out the window.

I'm game for a true traditional custom car event in a decent setting though. I can't much see driving 2000 miles to sit in a motel parking lot for a day and turn around and come home.

Oh, good point! Need to avoid other custom shows. They are few and far between.

We'd definitely look at dates that don't interfere with other cars shows. We don't want to step on others toes. Myself and along with the 3 other owners.of KOA actually had a discussion this past weekend.
