That's very impressive, the smooth black top and the skirts really help to give it a quality look,

I really like this sport coupe also but thought the top appears like a roadster so the door should mimic the roadster window opening, it helps to soften the look. Has this been done ? 7EE733D4-7952-4CDE-B121-DA5519C90AF0.jpeg

It has almost, I've seen a pic of a turquoise one on the HAMB, full fendered if I remember right, with the door tops rounded off but not such a large radius as that. I usually save any pics like that but for some reason I didn't, been searching but can't find it again.

Been a little while, been making some more progress.

Finished securing the top the supports, and cut in a back window. Used safety wire to keep it tensioned. Top will work for now, but I plan on building a better version with what I learned from this one this summer.

Put on scalded dog finned side plates, and modified a 4 barrel carb air cleaner to fit the weber.

    Replumbed my fuel line:

    PXL_20240221_234549726.jpg

    Added a tach
    PXL_20240221_234607803.jpg

And installed window gl*** and regulators. Still need to make some door panels.

    PXL_20240221_234540497.jpg

Also resealed the motor, new gaskets everywhere. Was sick of the oil leaks from the 20 year old gaskets on it.

Still trying to figure out a new exhaust for it that will fit with the weber intake. Any suggestions?

Been working on some old motorcycle projects so haven't done a ton lately on the car. Put the hood on and made up some hood straps from leather belts and rivets, and been working on some striping. About ready to get on the road for spring.

Finished up some door panels. I also made some kick panels that match, forgot to take a picture. She's about ready to hit the road!

  11. Just found your thread, I like what you've done. I really enjoyed building my full fendered '29 Tudor banger a few years back. My engine was pretty much like yours but I went with a later transmission, it made it a lot easier to drive. Keep up the good work, I'm gonna follow along...

Right on, thanks! What transmission did you use? I wouldn't mind swapping at some point. This car has always had a clutch chatter in 1st gear, I need to tear into that at some point, but no rush as its not getting any worse. I'll keep posting as I keep messing with this thing!

Ordering up a Reds header now, will be making a new exhaust for it soon.

  13. I used a '38 transmission with late '39 gears, I also had a lightened flywheel and it was drilled for a V-8 clutch. Check out my thread

It has alot of the details on what I was thinking and doing during the build.

Well haven't updated since the spring, and been driving the **** out of the car all summer. Some more updates.

Put on a cast iron header, sounded much better and got some more top end out of the motor.

Then made a pipe for it. Got some tubing, a short cherry bomb gl*** pack, and made a rad snake pipe.

Got sick of adjusting the generator output for charging with lights. Switched to a 6V pos ground single wire generator. Works much better.

    PXL_20240701_161908819.jpg

And then went to an FSI ignitions distributor curved for the high comp head. Really woke up the motor.

Since then, just driving it most days and havin fun.

haha sure. I don't think I took one of the complete pipe on the car. I'll take one tomorrow and post it. It's my favorite part at this point.

I love the paint! Looks awesome.
Was the FSI pretty much a bolt on piece or did it take some messing around to get it running right?
I'm wanting to purchase one myself, just waiting for the funds to do so.

Easy bolt on. It dropped right in place of the original. I have a NuRex timing kit on the motor, so I just eyeballed it to get it started. Then put a timing light on it and fine tuned it for base timing. Super easy and love it. I have a 6:1 high comp head, and their curve for that works well.

Finally grabbed a few pics of the pipe today. Had a ton of rain and **** weather lately so haven't had it out of the garage in a few days.

Well nothing new! Put down lots of miles in the car this summer. Still driving it until the snow hits here in CO. Oil burning is getting steadily worse, but still runs great. Gonna need to figure that out soon, but not real motivated until it causes a problem. Though I'm adding a lot of oil regularly at this point....

I'm watching for another local A motor to buy and swap in to run while I tear down this numbers matching engine. Since I ***led the car with the engine number (car had no frame number so I stamped the engine number in the frame) I want to keep it as the primary in the car. Anybody know of a running A motor in Northern Colorado?
