Anyone know anything about Pete? I gave him a couple deuce commercial bars at the LARS and sent him another B bar. That was 6-7 weeks ago. UPS delivered the bar which included payment. I don't need the bars but I get concerned when he hasn't cashed the check. I don't think he's participating on this forum anymore.

I can’t help answer your questions, but yes, he left the forum when the cowl steering thread went to hell. Hopefully someone has direct contact with him and can help.

A commercial (truck) deuce headlight bar is the same shape as the passenger bar but without the stainless center. Just painted steel.

Bummer. Looks like he hasn't been around since Nov. 2023. Hate to see people leave because of the occasional bad thread.

Doesn't it make you think when one of the guys people look up to around here doesn't want to be around here?

^^^^ yes but being the way things are today especially on an open forum were people are involved you gotta have a strong skin.

Nothing against Pete but maybe at his age he is tired of dealing with people, can't blame him.

That's one thing I learned as I got old, when I was young I always loved the old guys that would just tell you straight out what they thought, no sugar coating, no worrying about butt hurt feelings, just the straight facts. I always figured they were always that way.

NOPE ! They got that way thru the years dealing with ignorant people!! :p:p

It was the direct result of self-absorbed jackals who couldn’t fathom the possibility of being wrong about a goddamn thing. Pete wasn’t the culprit here. No, the real thorn was the user who instigated this whole circus, a persistent pain in my ass for years. In hindsight, I should’ve pulled the plug on his account long before the shit hit the fan. So yeah, this one's on me as much as anyone else.

Regardless, living and learning on the internet will always take a certain amount of grace. You gotta have some tolerance for jack-assery… Especially these days when shit talking has been weaponized by the insecure.

Thanks Ryan, I’m new here and my hot rod knowledge wouldn’t make a good pimple on Pete’s ass. However when I read a thread or ask for advice on a given topic and a proven expert gives his or her advice and experiences I would say it is prudent to follow said advice. However if I disagree I would disagree respectfully and state my reasoning, if proven wrong accept and move on and also thank the person for setting things straight. Hopefully Pete returns to contribute.
    Thanks
    Dan

  14. I would love to have a tiny piece of the immense knowledge that Pete has. We're all just a little poorer because someone didn't respect that and caused him to leave. Asshats never learn.

That's me. I know there a few guys out there (ppl who I work with in particular) that really don't like me. I'll tell you how it is, why it won't work (or why it will) or just plain tell someone how stupid or assinine an idea or whatever it may be is. I don't care anymore. But I also respect other ppl's opinions and experience.

On two different topics I have seen guys call out Dana Barlow.
The one joker really went off the rails, with a melt down.
Just because Dana spoke of what he saw.
    Neither dude is here today,
Happy to report,Dana, a genuine example of the real deal is still here.

Gonna step out of line here a bit...

The thing about the “tell it like it is” crowd, those hard-bitten bastards, is that they earned their stripes the hard way—through the long grind of time. And with time comes a kind of cynical resignation, a jaded lens through which the world looks perpetually bleak. When you're jaded, new ideas bounce off like spitballs on a battleship. No room for fresh insights, no space for growth.

Now imagine a whole community of these grizzled truth-slingers. You'd have a stagnant cesspool, stuck in the muck of their own making, forever anchored to a single, immovable point in time.

The point is, we need a mosaic of minds... It takes all kinds. I tip my hat to those brimming with hard-won wisdom who still hunger for more… those are the dudes I work hardest for.

^^^What Ryan is saying is a big problem with car clubs like the LA Roadsters and other clubs and organizations. I don’t hate them and will support them as long as they are together but it’s stagnant and the atmosphere prevents new blood from being interested

  19. We have a few here that no matter what are just “right” and it’s pointless to try to show them that there may be something to be learned from others. Any of the “technical” stuff I post I can back up from textbook oks or manuals, non of it is just because I said so. It’s unfortunate because it does stop me from wanting to try to help when there’s a small amount that just want to argue.

Sorry got sidetracked not what the thread is about…

It's kinda sad that a number of interesting threads on here have been run off the rails by a few know-it-alls who insist on proving their point by trying to dominate the thread with their opinion and/or thinly veiled inflammatory comments. To make matters worse, there are always a few who tend to engage with them and run the thread off course with page after page of argumentative BS. Three simple words, "Let it go" or "Agree to Disagree".
I guess it's partly why I don't feel compelled to check in here as often as I used to.

When you see shit like this, hit the report button… Gives me the opportunity to at least see it.

I have no problems getting rid of fellas that can’t use perspective to be decent. Hell, I can make a sport of that…

  24. I cherish the History of Hot Rodding and all of the pioneers who have come before us. When one of these pioneers takes the time to give us some advice and knowledge, we damn sight need to have the respect to listen to what he has to say. Their knowledge and expertise have come from years and years of doing what we love on here. I just don't understand it, maybe it's ego or even a generational thing, but why question someone who has been doing these things for decades!

  25. I have no problem with disagreeing but if you are spewing wrong information and have nothing to back it up then resort to personal attacks on people having a discussion….

The old saying,"No one likes a know-it-all"...probably the reason I have so few friends:(.

I’m just curious/confused, reading your post. “You gave”, then you “sent”. What was the check for? Seems like you sent it to him?

Read the post carefully. I found 2 deuce commercial headlight bars at the LARS which I purchased. I gave them to Pete rather than haul them home and ship them back to Pasadena. When I got home I also had passenger car B bar that I wanted dropped so I wrote him a check to cover the cost of the dropping the 3 bars and the return shipping. I put it in an envelope with a short explanation of what I wanted, secured the envelope around the headlight bar which I put in a box and shipped it UPS to Pete. UPS tracking confirmed delivery of the package 4 days later. My wife was balancing my check box a few days ago and noticed that it had been about 6 weeks since I sent the payment and the check hadn't cleared the bank. He may not have opened the box yet who knows? Does that clear it up for you?
