Oldest purpose built drag strip or dragway?
It has taken a long time for me to appreciate the significance of the notion of 'purpose built' but most drag strips were airports, military bases, abandoned roads, or even salt flats, high-desert dried lake beds or the malls parking lot? I am doing a doc, The Era of the Oswego Dragway 1955-1979, and the notion that the Oswego dragway was either the first or one of the very first purpose built drag strips in the U.S. I've seen some good info on this site about longest operating so maybe someone can help me out. To learn more visit www.OswegoDragway.com or email me.
    Thanks,

Pacemakers, our local dragstrip, was a purpose built track. Im not sure exactly when it was first opened, but I do know it was already an established track in 1958. A friend of mine was an official there in '58.
