Have a 1936 ford and the key will go in the tumbler but it doesn’t turn. It worked a few times (just got the car recently ) Any tricks that help resolve this or does tumbler need a new key /lock unit ?
Graphite powder sometimes helps. If it looks like the key is worn out; you could pull the lock cylinder and get a key cut to the code on the cylinder. If it turns out to be a repop cylinder, I would just replace it. Best would be a NOS cylinder or you could always have a used original cylinder gone thru. I have had 32 Phil do a few for me with good results.
If it’s the steering column lock, I’ve seen that sometimes the wheels are locked into a position they don’t want to be in. The lock then is more difficult to unlock as it is holing the tires in place. To remedy, try rocking the steering wheel. if it’s a different lock, maybe try some graphite before getting invasive.
IMO the pins are worn in the cyl.Pull it out and send it to Phil in NY. He rebuilds all my lock cyls. There are NOS ones all the time on that Auction site.
What is Phil’s HAMB name on here ? Or can you give me his contact info so I can send him mine to be rebuilt ? Thanks !
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46583 Early Ford 32-48 keys cut by code. $10 each key $5 for each additional w/same number. I prefer to have the lock but will cut just by code. I can do some 1950 to 1964 call on those because the blanks may be different. I can do locking handles w/out the number, call for details. Personal Checks OK.
