I was wondering about putting 5 lug hubs on a 4 lug Nova in the front. Then drill the drums for 5 lug or replace with new ones.
    9.5 brakes. Good cond.
    Is it that easy?
    Bearings are the same.

  2. Depends on what year...... 62 is it's own enemy.........For 63, you can use 64/65 stuff.......I've done it before, but I took the spindle and everything attached to it. It was a bolt in.

Donor 5 lug is much easier. Be sure to get lower control arms with the spindles. Make’s full lock to lock steering possible with out having to modify excisting lower arms.

As well, 5 lug hub will not work on 4 lug spindles. Bearing sizes are different for one.

Did you enter V8 1964 models vs L6 1963 models? Your profile say’s 63 Nova.

    Its a 63 L6. So 1964 6 cyl 5 lug are different than v8?
When I checked the part number both years were same. 63 and 64.
63 Nova only had 6 cyl.

Reread what Johnny wrote, using ‘64/5 stuff on your ‘63;)

Just assuming but V8 stuff for ‘64/5 would be different.

Hubs and brakes. Spindle and bearings should be same. Spindle may have different part number but should interchange.

Power brakes have different steering arms.
I just want to know if the bearings are the same why won't the hubs work?

When the Nova was redesigned in 1968, it used lots of parts from the then new Camaro. Different animal.

  15. You are quite right about 1962 model year. Helped a guy with the rear end in his 62, oddball 9" brakes, and axle bearings that are a real trick to find as they are different than most others. I believe 62-63 only used this housing and brakes.

My son replaced my front hubs on my '62 with an aftermarket 5 lug disc brake kit while I was deployed overseas. The kit was the best thing ever, I could actually stop! I replaced the rear axle with a 1964 El Camino rear.

452805378_8321727201184826_4267981673910742101_n.jpg Thanks , looking to keep drum brakes for now.
Disc brake would lead to redoing the whole brake system. Car would be apart for a month and snowball to a year upgrading other things. Like rear end. Then rear springs.
    I have enough projects.
We will drive it for now.

  19. Let's see that Falcon clone with the top up. The only early Nova convertible I ever saw looked so cool with the top up. There was something about the proportions of the top that looked good to me.

  20. Great picture. Did it have the straight-six in it?

From the factory yes. My buddy David (person in front and his car) found that Nova (looked nothing like it does in the photo) in the Recycler Add’s. It had been V8 swapped but for sale less engine and trans.

It's basically a Chevy II version of the '55-'64 passenger car rear end.

  23. I haven't seen a The Recycler newspaper in a long time. The ink and/or the pages were green, weren't they? The Recycler might make a good thread topic, if it hasn't already been done.

  24. Correct. That's why a lot of people dropped 64 and up nova rears in their tri 5's. It was a bolt in, and gave a smidge of more clearance wheel wise...... They were getting away from the weaker link. I know of a bunch of people who still have them, and it's been a lot of years. 62-/3 were drop outs(front) (weaker), 64 and up are drop from the rear. + 5 lug ,etc.......

The rears have a bad setup. Wheel bearing goes bad axle comes out of car.
Nice afternoon for a cruise. Lucky nothing hurt to bad.
Going 5 lug sooner than I wanted. I have the rear end.
I guess I will do discs and dual master cyl.
Lost my brakes when it went. 453772506_1854822008328626_3559393494984487161_n.jpg 453782409_1696739644477252_5990176217369131789_n.jpg 453786031_806821954982420_6476626514269972551_n.jpg

Luck was on my side. No idea how it came out and cleared everything.
Tire sits up in wheel well. It's like the car bounced up and it slid out all the way.
    I never saw it coming.
I've drove a lot of old junk several miles over the years , never had this happen.
We went to town and coming back home. driving about 55mph 452805378_8321727201184826_4267981673910742101_n.jpg
