Projects 1962 Biscayne Jr Stocker for the Street Build

I have a couple of those scars

 

Badge of honor scars. I have more than I want.

 

Looking good. I'm not much of a fan of those thumb switch grinders.

 

God, that car is clean. Look at that firewall!

 

It's a solid Texas car but water leaks got the floor pan. I pulled about 5 lbs of pokey putty from around the back window. I'm told Biscaynes had plastic floor covering instead of carpet and if water got in, it just laid under the plastic and wreaked havoc

 

That's too bad, but a floor isn't too big a deal to fix. The back window kind of stinks because you'll have to blend in some paint. Great car though - I've been appreciating '62 2-door sedans more and more the last few years.

I finished the welding on the L.R. floor pan and cleaned up the welds a bit.
There was a rear seat back retainer ripped out of the floor. I had one from a donor car so I welded that in. I have no intention of installing the back seat, I just figured now was the time to fix it.
Started fitting the R.R. floor patch.
Nothing glamorous but it's all necessary. Seems like I'll never get to the cool stuff.

 

I don't remember if you mentioned it already, but do you have an engine trans combo stashed away for it?

I wanted a street and strip car. I like the nostalgia stuff and I have plenty of used Stocker parts laying around so a Jr Stocker was a natural choice. I sent you a message.

 

It's going to have a 327 for power. The initial power plant will be legal for NHRA Stock Eliminator but tamed down for street use. I've been playing around with the engine and when I get a little farther along, I'll document the build here.
I have a complete 4-Speed setup (Ram clutch and a T-10) and a bunch of Turbo 350 stuff laying around. Going to start with the T-350.

 

I did the final fit on the right rear patch panel. My OCD took over and I kept messing with it until it nearly became too small.
Did some rust prevention and got it tacked in.
We've had heat indices of 100 degrees this week so I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.

 

Right rear floor pan welded in and cleaned up. Onward to the front floor pans!

 

Looks like there is more of that car than what I started with.
Are the floor braces still good?

I was so hoping to hear "She's so fine my 409"......

 

The floor braces and the rocker boxes are perfect. The right outer rocker is nice, the left needs two patches.

Yea, that would be cool for sure. The choice of engine is because the 327 is cost effective. I had most of the parts laying around. Who knows, maybe someday down the road if I find a deal on a 409.

 

Have to watch out for the 409 rabbit hole, it can get very deep. I started with one and now have four.

 

Well, I took some time this week and built some cribbing blocks which I 've wanted to do for years. So... since I needed a break from floor repair, I've decided to finish cleaning and painting the underside. As you can see by the last pic, I'm thrilled lol.

 

That last picture says "I've seen things that no one should see!"

And the worst thing, in places that stuff shouldn't be in...

 

Got the underside cleaned up and tossed some fiber reinforced mud on the floor pan seams. I'm done cleaning on the bottom and you have no idea how happy I am to say that, lol.

 

Is that a big long crack in the X in the frame?
The floors are looking good by the way.

I wasted two days screwing around with bondo on the floor pan butt welds. I guess it's good practice for when the real body work starts. If all goes well, the bottom of the car will be painted by the end of the day.
