And not the kind by the ocean! I installed new trunk and door seals from Dennis Carpenter and now my doors and trunk are all outta whack! I've been adjusting and at least it closes now. My question is for the quarter gl***, I pulled the trim and gl*** out and got new rubbers too. Painted the trim while they were out. Rattle can delight, not perfect but a big improvement. When I removed the old gl*** it looked like it had butyl tape or caulking holding in place. Is that the case? Or do I just put the new rubber on and call it a day?
I'm not familiar with mainline quarter windows. Do they roll up and down like my Customline? If so, the gl*** is attached to the tracks with gl*** setting tape. https://www.rubbertherightway.com/1965-oldsmobile-restoration-parts-window-46583-prd1.htm If the gl*** is stationary, I don't have an answer.
I’ve read that many of the aftermarket seals are thicker than the factory seals resulting in the same problem that you encountered.
I wish my quarter gl*** rolled down but they are fixed. And yes the seals are thick. They seam pretty flexible but shoot they really do stick out. I'll just keep adukust til I can get them closer.
Give it time. With the doors and trunk closed and pressing on the seals, they should eventually compress somewhat and the body alignment problem will improve.
That's what I was going to suggest.....not readjusting the doors because in time (a long time), they will reshape themselves. As far as your fixed rear side windows, in '57 the only fixed rear windows were in the rare business sedans. jfyi. I did convert mine to fixed.
I needed to adjust my driver door, it wouldn't get even 6 inches from the door jam. It stuck out so far, it felt like it was binding. The p***enger door I didn't adjust and it sticks out less. But it's probable a better idea to let them settle before adjusting so I don't adjust multiple times. I wish I could lower my rear quarters, it would let in so much more air. Has anyone tried to convert a fixed to roll down quarter window?
The '54 Club Coupe Model is exactly like your Business Coupe except that it came from the factory with a rear seat and roll up rear windows. If you could find complete window gl***, regulators and gl*** channels from a '52-'54 Club Coupe you could easily convert your Business Coupe to roll up windows. However, the Club Coupe was a rarer model than the standard Tudor Sedan (like the one I have). I am not sure if the window regulators used in the Tudor Sedan are the same as the ones used in the Club Coupe but if they are, they would be much easier to find. Maybe someone with the original Ford Parts Book can say if the regulators are the same. I have seen those rear quarter window regulators for sale on Ebay quite often.
Probably need the inner metal as well. I feel like for the business coupe they really cut costs like crazy! There's only 1 small bar that goes from the top to the only about halfway down. There it connects to the support bracket for the fender and splash guard.
