It's hard not to like a red racecar, but that's really not why this is one my faves, I can't put my finger on any one thing, must be the whole package, it has it all, everything us gearheads from the 60's expect a gasser to possess. Red plexiglass never hurts either.

Great pics. Rat Rods Rule site has a pic thread, up at the top they have about 90 pages of gasser pics. They have some really nice old pics, one of Stone, Woods and Cook, the car and also a pic of them. I know I'm not suppose to mention rat rod, but I love looking at gassers, I don't care what they are on.

I was a huge fan of Ohio George's '33 Willys, but his paint job was sure understated!
Of the old gassers I thought Big John Mazmanian's candy apple red gassers were just gorgeous. So when I built my Austin gasser I tried to match his paint color on it.

I liked the red enough that I considered doing my '39 Chev coupe in the same color also. But after some consideration I went plain Wimbledom White instead as I felt it would be more subdued also. Sometimes less is more I think. Sort of like what George did with his Willys.

  17. I liked it so much that I borrowed certain aspects off of it for mine, but this one is much better.

The OP was asking about "eye catching" paint jobs, and one that came to mind is the Fenner Tubbs '65 Plymouth. This car won several national events and set many records as a stocker before it was cut up for FX. It was always immaculate in all-black with gold leaf lettering, just awesome.

That one is pretty simple though, so check out the asymmetrical panels on this '55. Love it.
