So as a recent shop clean out effort I dug out the 32 stuff again and posted the pictures (again). I know that all the parts on the floor are not 32, but everything except the Buick drums (I grabbed those from a wrecker years ago) was from Dads stash. The picture below is stuff acquired after Dads p***ing. Not even sure what it fits, but the front end has some Pete and Jake’s stamps.
Good trading material or to sell and use the proceeds to buy something the roadster needs. I'm a bad one to talk but even a couple hours a week on a project get things done over a period of time even if the first part is just sorting out and setting the pieces that will go on the car in a designated spot/shelf/file cabinet that is only for parts for that car. All of those little pieces that need cleaning p, repaired, painted and what not can be done one at a time over time and put on the shelf and pretty soon you won't have that pile staring you in the face. Right now I'm working on the dash for my 48 after I finally found the missing piece to replace what I hacked up on the dash that is going in it 58 years ago.
I hear you brother, but “time management” is not my problem…. “Time” is. Last year I was working 14 - 16 hours per day and getting 1 or 2 days off per month. Insanity. And during that time I managed to restore and sell a Soviet jet airplane. I currently have 3 other airplanes needing rebuild. Last project:
So good, thanks for posting the old pics again, i didnt think id get to see em..... you dads car was damn cool for back in the day, i know alot dont like a channeled car but tons were. what area in Minnesota was your dad from? do you know if he was in a car club? what year abouts was the pic taken again? i forget. JEFF
Hi Jeff. The pictures were taken in and around Thief River Falls from 1950-53. As a rod, it had a very short lifespan before it was dis***embled. I still have the 1952 plate (shown in post 152, taken just this past weekend, and above)
Guess I never thought too much about this, but always wondered why I had 2 grille shells with the car. The first one is a corn yellow color and presumably original to the car when purchased. The lower end is hacked with a torch to drop it down to match the chanelled body, but the blue painted and uncut shell was clearly installed in the pictures. Looking at the recent pics (post 152) and those “back in the day” it’s easy to see how far forward the uncut shell sits in comparison the headlights. Same headlight position in both pics, very different location of the shell.
Doesn't appear that it ever had cowl lights so its a true standard roadster? Was it originally a 4cyl or 8?
After significant reflection and no shortage of anguish, this car is for sale. Time to face reality and p*** it on to those more p***ionate about this style of automotive history than me. Yes, it has some deep sentimental value, but I shared more than cars with my Dad - he was also a pilot an gave me the love for flying. that has been my real p***ion for the last 20 years. And unlike the 32, which we never “shared”, I also own and fly the first airplane Dad bought. This airplane provided the first flight I ever took and can remember as a 5 year old going out to the airport on Sunday mornings to fly with him. After reading the “Images that require no explanation” and “Sitting and rotting” threads, I’ve simply come to the realization that there are people far more p***ionate about these cars than me and I should p*** the 32 on to someone who will appreciate it more than me. I’m a 60’s car guy at heart, so go easy on me! I’m not hurting for money and I have plenty of space, so that’s not the motivation here. It just feels like it’s time to be responsible and “let go”.
BIG response to the for sale ad. One potential buyer didn't like some things so thought I'd throw a few more pictures up to better represent the current condition.
bummer, if i would have known you were considering selling it, would have been cool to have it back here in Minnesota....
