I've seen a number of fake valve covers, one of my favorites was the Genie shifter covers, whats yours? Yes, I know its wrong
IMHO....That ranks right up there with the rolled-up socks in your pants, or your girlfriends implants!!
It's an unfortunate fact that some men suffer with a lack of potency under their hood, thus the rise of the engine strap-on. Be kind to them, they're a bit sensitive about their inadequacies.
I’m workin on installing FE Thunderbird tins on my 302 . It will probably be like everything else , at least 10 years to complete
Fake valve covers, why are you so ashamed of the engine you have in your car, that you want people to think it is something else?.
Kinda depends on the engine of choice and the valve covers that are being adapted. Some can be well done and pretty hard to recognize. Most of the LS/SBC aftermarket ones are pretty lame. Anyone can look at the placement of the exhaust exits from the heads and immediately tell its phony. Some details on well known engines are difficult if not impossible to conceal. On lesser known engines its usually easier to do some changing and look correct. I plan to install a custom set of finned alum valve covers for a 365 Cad onto a 500 Cad......simply because I like the squared ends better than the roundish ends of a 500. It will still be a Cad on a Cad, so I think it will be fine. Nothing wrong with adapting other covers if its done right, but a poorly done conversion looks phony.
I had ford Tent Roof FE valve covers on my 65 Fastback for years. Only 2 Ford Guys ever noticed and asked about the Engine. Goes to show how many people have no Idea of what they are looking at.
Fake! Phony! Isn't that what hot rods are all about? Isn't that what a BIG engine in a small body is all about? Sorry, that is a sleeper, not a phony. LOL. Enjoying this thread. Different strokes for different folks. Now, any one have a cast aluminum cover for a 248 Buick? Want to make it Special! Ben
Just my take on what I see when I look at a modified vehicle.......... Probably the first thing I subconsciously notice is whether the vehicle seems to be built along the lines of a "custom", a "restoration" of some form of a "hot rod". I know there are overlapping features involved here, but generally I gravitate more toward cars that lean toward some actual performance. Simply putting a 283 into a 30s body is sufficient to improve performance (IMHO) and be a hot rod. Within that hot rodding category, then I look to whether the car is more for show or more for driving. Its nice to look at higher dollar builds that glisten and shine and have every hot rod feature included with $10,000+ paint. Get lots of ideas from those cars. But again , I prefer cars that are more drivable and usable. Many of them may have large displacement engines, blowers, slicks, etc. To me though I know many of these cars may not be able to harness that power on the street.........I still like them. There are certain things that can be faked on these vehicles that I'm OK with, because they are well done and not obvious for the most part. When I see a car with multiple blowers atop the engine......I know its all for show. If I see a dummy blower atop an engine, I'm good with that though. Many times there are reasons for not making it functional, but at least it still looks real. I guess everyone has different opinions about fake stuff as well as items that are added to look racey ......but actually say the opposite. It's all in how someone incorporates the stuff when its time to decide if it looks real or looks phony...........or just looks like an afterthought. Like the old saying ..."The devil is in the details", and nothing is more accurate than that when it comes to building any of these cars.
I never could understand the reasoning behind this if you have a small block Chevy or heaven forbid a LS why stick olds or maybe YBLOCK covers on I have a lot of time and money in my olds 303 and my yblocks just to have some jack hole try and make there chevy look like them it ruins there engine in my opinion.
I've got a set of those, nice chevy script covers underneath with a couple studs welded on for the Olds hold downs, they were donated by a friend.
