I know on earlier Mopar stuff, the shift linkage is 'different' than the typical 2 arms/4 positions. They had an in/out and a front/back shift pattern. If your linkage is wrong, can it be flipped and connected backwards?
I'd check out Power Wagon forums and 50s Mopar forums if this is a common transmission. They should have diagnostics, repair and parts info.

BTW, welcome to the HAMB. You might want to post an intro. This section of the site is less traveled, and your question does fit the main board. It would get more eyes on it there.

This group of hoodlums, I mean upstanding vintage auto enthusiasts, tends toward the more experienced end of the age spectrum, so you fit right in.
If the solution doesn't become apparent up on the hoist, take pics and maybe it can be solved.

This probably doesn't need to be said, but shift linkages that have 50 plus years on them have worn, sticky, pivots that haven't been adjusted properly, are often bent and many times have incorrect hardware. Fixes can range from lubing and adjustment to removal, straightening linkage, welding and reshaping holes and pivots, sourcing new bushes, washers and retaining hardware.

30 bucks here may be worth it just for the diagrams. Picture is worth a thousand words and so forth.

Looks like your front adjustment might be loose and moving. IMG_0553.PNG

Maybe you have it figured out already. I don’t usually check this part of the forum, saw it and forgot to get pictures until today. When you pull the shifter towards you it should pull the rod going to the selector lever (side lever on the trans) forward. Forward position selects R-1, Relaxed position which is rearward selects 2-3 . Moving the shifter up and down should move the arm on top of the trans. Which shifts from reverse to first or second to third depending on the position of the selector arm. IMG_6160.jpeg

    Don't we all! :D
If you have any pointers on how it all works now that it IS working, share them here. You can be the smart guy for the next person that needs help on this setup.

That's interesting, was that a newer transmission that used solenoids? That doesn't seem like what came in the truck, and that is a peculiar looking bell housing in the pic @56C3B6 posted, does yours look square like that @hdrider1957 ??? (I learn stuff all the time) BTW, good explaination, @56C3B6;)
