I am building a 283 with tri-carb setup and would like to run some what early ‘60s era look with the red plastic see thru fuel line. The product from Speedway says not to use gas with ethanol in it which I’m ok with. If you are running this fuel line have you had any other issues? Thank you
Mine made it about a year on my three Holley 94’s with non-ethanol fuel before it was pretty brittle. I swapped it out for regular rubber line fairly quickly. Although it looked cool, I heard too many stories about it failing.
I’ve often wondered if you could find the red hose big enough to sleeve a metal line. Would look the same but less chance of fuel dumping all over when the red gets brittle.
I had some of that Speedway stuff and it got hard as a rock.Maybe the stuff hrm2k is posting would be a better product.
@hrm2k how long have you been running it? Looks really good in the pics as far as any noticeable deterioration. @Tim that sounds like a very plausible work around ! Be interesting to see it tried. ...
I have a friend who did exactly that --Ran brake line thru the red hose. When done, you could see red hose and the tubing allowed to make shallow bends.
I like that red line. Make sure your insurance premium is paid up and a Halon Extinguisher would be a good call.
The engine was run in at the machine shop in March 2023. We emptied all 4 carbs after the run. It is sitting in the frame waiting for me to finish it. As life is currently going it should be finished a couple of years from next Thursday
The suggestion Tim had works great, just warm up the hose before trying to put it over the tubing. The color does not fade at all!
I had some on an Harley , fuel line went between the jugs to the carb . I learned a like long lesson , use the best and replace less . It was not a fun ride gasoline spraying in the face , eyes and mouth at speed . The fuel was gravity feed, just think issues if a pump was feeding it . Has anyone given and thinkin to stainless tube sprayed with candy paint ? Will it work , how will it work ? I just hate to see the car ruined or someone hurt from something we all know is subject to fail at any moment .
I had some of that red fuel line from Speedway on my '50 Ford years ago. I can't say for sure that I never ran the car on ethanol blend. Sometimes you get stuck and have to. The red line turned brittle and literally crumbled to the touch. I'll never run it again.
Absolutely. Nothing but tubing and fittings from the fuel pump to the carbs. The only flexible line is from the frame to the fuel pump and no screw clamps if possible. The factory was smart and so should we be….
Even the high quality premium fuel polyurethane red fuel lines caution to avoid gasoline containing 10% alcohol or ethanol. I used red plastic fuel line back in the 60's and never changed the lines, their failure resulting in a engine fire due to brittle lines and I almost lost my car, to this very day I love the look but since I now have a hood I use line made for cars that use diesel fuel, it last a lot longer than regular gas line. HRP
The stupid Gov. pushed corny gas* dose take the color partly out of sami-clear red line after about a year. { Speedway sells},but the sun* also dose,if not garage kept. Plus it starts getting hard, flex is less=becomes likely too crack if bent=not a good thing.< replace before this can happens. When the red turns to OJ,then yellow, time to get some new red. You can feel it get hard too. I've been running it for many many years, started in the early 60s,,but I do change it each year. A few times in the passed ,it was not EZ to get ,and I used just black line, but I like the look of red*clear line an to see the fuel. I run 4x2,so a good bit of line in site.
