Guys, I've god a set of nice finned brake drums that are in size, but need to find big bearing backing plates and shoes to complete what I have.

Can anybody say ID what I have and possibly direct me to where I can get backing plates and shoes to suit?

They are a 10" diameter drum

  2. 10-inch drums with big bearing backing plates? I would start searching for mid 60s Ford intermediate cars with the FE engine. Fairlane, Comet, Cougar, etc. Use Rock Auto to search brake shoe sizes.

Or you could call Quick Performance in Iowa or John's Ford 9" in Michigan. Explain or describe what you have and what you want. They will sell you loaded backing plates, bolt them on and go. Your rearend flange bolt pattern should tell you what you need.

  4. The 351 cars got the 9" also, but for the big-bearing ends you'll need to look under the wagons/Rancheros. You can probably go as new as the early '70s.

Did you already verify there is enough material to have these drums turned? They honestly don't look that great to me, and while the ribbed/fluted versions are likely not cheap to buy new, smooth (O.D) drums are less than $50 each, roughly. You will definitely need to have the friction surface of the drum turned on these from what I see in pic #2.

2-1/2" deep drum means 2" wide shoes, leaving room for the backing plate to tuck inside the drum.

I would start by sanding the rust and crust off the outermost raised ring on the outside face of the drum and look for a part number(s).

Pink, you are correct, that drum is 2nd oversize, but I have 2 sets.
The other set is 1st over size and in better condition and painted gloss black and was not so friendly to the flash on my phone camera.
I doubt that Id wear a set of brake shoes out at my age, but I do have good intentions given the right set of cir***stances...

That drum looks like what my 66 Falcon Club Wagon used. That had a 240 engine and a 9" that used 10x 2 1/2" brakes. Compare your drum with this Raybestos drum on Rock Auto:

Shoes and hardware are available but finding backing plates might be tough. Shelby found out that they were good on the GT 350 and 500.

I'm wondering that plus could be front drums.
Fingers crossed I may find a pair somewhere if they exist.
