Does anyone make a performance camshaft for the Cadillac 331 similar to the Isky 270 duration camshaft under part number 701270. It looks to be no longer available.

Remember on hydraulic lifter engines which do not have adjustable rocker arms to measure the base circle of the cam you are sending off so you can compare it to the one you get back. Smith can make you longer push rods to make up the difference. Adjustable push rods are always a possibility also…

Thanks for all the input!! Schneider does have a grind similar to the Isky cam.

  6. I have a 49-56 Cadillac Isky custom grind, hard face overlay, duration 298 duration from early 60's drag car. Have lifters too. Let me know if you want the spec sheet. Might be a little rough for the street.

Be a good cam for a nostalgia race car, but straight from Ed's lips to my ear, the hard face overlay cams are race only; they will fail in street use. It's good you have the matching chilled iron lifters, as those are NLA.

Thanks Walter but that cam is too aggressive of a grind for my build.

Isky will probably regrind it for you… I called them last month about an early olds cam. They only do the odd ball stuff a few times a month it sounds like though, and it wasn’t cheap. I will probably have them do a good core I have. Only thing that stopped me is I struck out on my own since then and money won’t come as regularly now… Ultimate dream is to get a cam tag to go with it too.

I will tell you what didn’t work out for me- I bought a 3/4 grind cam from Egge that they had on the shelf. The base circles varied in diameter more than .060” from the biggest to the smallest. It was all over the map! I had a hard time explaining to them that this wouldn’t work because I’d have a custom pushrod for almost every lobe! Despite that they took the camshaft back without any issues, they really were great to deal with.

Oldsmobum: I had thought about contacting Isky as I thought I read where they might make a few nostalgic cams once and while. Thanks for the warning on Egge's cam.

Double check. But as I recall, Studebaker (all years, but later is better) rocker arms will work in the 331 Cad engine.
    And yes...they ARE adjustable.
So yes, a solid lifter cam, can be a good choice.

  12. Studebaker rockers will work; but you'll have to have custom pushrods made...

Pushrods should ALWAYS be verified for the correct length !

Cam regrind, check length. Mill block, check length. Mill heads, check length. Unknown block or heads, check length. New lifters, check length.

  14. So you recommend to check the length then,,
    sorry, couldn’t help that.
