I have a 1950 Chevrolet truck with a mid 70's AMC Pacer front suspension. I'd like to get to disc brakes and keep the front end to save the work of cutting it out and re-clipping it, or spending $2000+ on the Mustang II approach. Any thoughts? Ideas?
    Thanks.

  2. They came with discs.
I’ve got a complete pacer set up and rebuild kit
Thought about using it in mine but decided to just keep the straight axle.
Either locate a disc brake pacer or maybe a hornet and grab the parts or check with scsrebird

Looking now. Hope I can find one vs. cutting the truck up again.

There were a couple notes that scarebird is no longer in business. I filled out the contact form and left and email but nor response. The kit they show would be perfect for a great price. Sort of got my hopes up a bit.

    Still on the hunt. Thanks.

Have a complete front with discs. And a Kanter rebuild kit I bought 20+ years ago.

Even have a ch***is engineering pacer install kit:)

The Pacer front end was kind of the go to front end until the Mustang II came along.

I've also got (extra)Pacer front discs stuff that I won't be using, I'm in MN. That stuff is heavy to ship. IIRC, you'll need the bolt-on spindles, bolts, rotors/hubs, calipers, caliper brackets & bolts. & maybe the steering arms(? idk). But I'd have to look at the box of parts.
Had mine stuffed(bolted) under a '47 ford pu. Worked well. Got the extra set for a bolt-on-drop for an I-beam axle project that didn't happen.
    You are where?

I'm in NC. I sort of got my hopes up with Scarebird parts only being an hour or so away. Then a message popped up they were no longer in business.

The truck is in pretty good shape for no more than I paid. The front end was put in with some skill. One of the reasons I would hate to cut it out from the original frame and then try to back to the same ch***is. From there I could clip it with a Camaro/Nova. As far as the Mustang II I am not sure how stout the front ch***is would be after cutting out the Pacer front end.

I am sure shipping would be killer. Are the calipers and rotors still available new? I will check but thought I would ask.
Maybe I could get the spindles and backing plates to cut down on shipping? And of course what you would want for them? (not sure on the rules of buying and selling, but sort of went with it for now. Apologies if I broke the rules).

  10. Picks of the installation.
Was it notched and welded in?

The last I heard, my old '49 went down your way. It had a Pacer crossmember all bolted in with the Ch***is Engineering kit. Worked good. I used a disc brake set up from the start, turned down a free drum brake one.

Yes. Notched the frame and welded in. I will get some pics tomorrow when I am at the shop.
The front weld is fairly nice work for what it is, but the back I'd be scared to drive that across the yard. LOL

It is not notched as bad as I thought. Mostly bumped up to the bottom and welded. For the sake of time and I sort of like it being odd, I was hoping to keep it. I am looking to see what is still offered as most of the bushings look rough. I'd hate to this route and none of the re-build stuff be available. I see most of it on Rock Auto but it is on back order. Still checking around.

I can pull the wheels if that helps. I got hung up with some nightshifts this week so work/life got in the way again.

Man, you have to take bigger pictures. my old eyes have trouble seeing things on those small pictures. Even viewed in large size are still too small.
