Acrylic Enamel paint with DAU 75 clear-slow reducer in the paint-straight clear 16 to 1 gloss enhancer. Color sanded with 600 and buffed with 9" wool pad-3M #1 white compound

Just shot a few parts outside my shop after a rain the day before to keep from having to cover everything in the shop to keep overspray off. I would rather paint inside the shop to limit trash in the paint more, but these were quickie deals on my sons car trying to get it ready for a car show this weekend. I was pretty happy with how clean they actually turned out.

CUT YOUR PARTS PAINT COST AND TIME - IN HALF! Or, keep acid dipping, sand blasting, and ceramic coating your parts to ensure they last beyond the apocalypse.:D

    My old method…

I shot some caliper brackets last night and feel that they will be just fine with 1 medium coat.

    1 and done!

I painted the hood and front fenders this spring on my Olds in my garage.

And I painted my wife's 41 PU in my backyard a couple years ago. I did cheat a little and used a blow up paint booth on the truck.

Nice work! But i think you cheated 'cause you painted in the backyard, not in the driveway or garage LOL!

I painted the roadster in the drive, just like the Stude, the primer/base coat went on fine, but as I am shooting clear the damn cottenwood tree that is fifty? feet away did it's best to ruin my somewhat mediocre paint job. My wife was right there with a tweezer doing the best she could. Just don't look close at the finish:) IMG_5153.JPG

I forgot to put a smiley emoji with my smart-ass comment. I meant because it has water beading on it. It would have killed on face book.

My 50 Coupe in Dad's garage. He painted the body, and I trimmed it out. Set it on the Chassis then I brought it home to do final assembly. Jasper (the dog) supervised.

Painted my coupe in my driveway after doing all the bodywork there. I think it came out pretty good. It’s lacquer .

Are those rear fenders peaked like that from the factory or is somebody due some detailing award points, very nicely done.

They are peaked from the factory, but he deserves major kudos for the bodywork making them so nice and crisp.

upload_2024-8-29_2-35-47.png The look of a 348 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, as it was supposed to look to the builder/owner at the time of the finished project one late Friday night. A “Racer Orange” paint color.

upload_2024-8-29_2-36-53.png The finished look of the 348 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery with a polish on it, cruising into the drive-in restaurant driveway cruise on a Saturday night. The sound was outstanding and for me the paint was just different enough to be a cool hot rod. Shiny and nice, with blackwall tires and rims.

    Hello,

At first, the sight of the orangish sedan delivery starting its cruise into the parking lot where most of the local teenagers had their cars was eye opening. No one had a newish build for some time and the sound of the motor/mufflers was noticeable. So, all heads turned as it came into the lot with its “orangish” paint and cool looks. The black rims/tires gave it a Lion’s Dragstrip racer look. The sound of the motor just added to the overall impression to all of us in the parking lot.

As there were two spots left in the back row and a flow of cars coming into the lot, the only way to get the coveted back row spot was to go around the block. No one wanted to make a spectacle of stopping and backing up into a narrow spot. If the action was tried and not successful, more groans and whistles, as well as comments to the driver was yelled across the lot. So, the only way was come back down the alleyway, fronting the back row spots and a simple angle parking spot was wide open.

Now, the 348 motor was rumbling as the sedan delivery pulled into the empty spot. Everyone wanted to see what was what and also, who… Come to find out, it was an older friend from junior high school and was year older than most of us. He had just finished building the 348 40 Ford Sedan Delivery and painted it late Friday night in his driveway.

    Jnaki

It was the latest hot rod to be presented to everyone and we all agreed it was pretty outstanding and rare to see a sedan delivery pull into the parking lot. No one had a sedan delivery, except for milk delivery guys, and furniture delivery/tv repair folks. No teenager had one in all of Long Beach. Now, here was one in all of its rumbling motor/new paint and great appearance to the local teenage crowd.

But, as the evening wore on, the owner told me that he had finished the overall running build and now on the Friday night evening, he was painting it in his car port around 12 midnight. As described, he did everything right as he had done on other paint projects. He remembers mixing the custom color as orange/red and as he was painting it inside of his covered plastic sheeting draped in his home carport, it looked good going on to the surfaces.

By the time he finished, it looked amazing to him. But, Saturday night was the cruise night chosen to display his finished hot rod. What initially looked like a nice Racer Orange color took on a different hue under the parking lot lights. And as critical of any build or modified motor/car was done by anyone, let alone, teenagers, criticism started.

The orange color was suspect and it did look a little “pinkish.” The owner was hearing all of the talk and began to fume. The term, "Salmon Pink" had been tossed around and now, that name stuck. So, several other nights in different teenage parking lots gave way to the last straw.

Now, he wanted to sell his latest creation. He did not want to be labeled as a “bad painter” and hot rod builder. So, we talked until the next day about the cost he was asking. I had already penned it in as my ultimate surfing road trip camper and exploration vehicle. But, we were far off the cost of the purchase and selling the sedan delivery to me.

We finally came to a deal I could not pass up. But, the 348 was taken out and a Flathead motor was installed. 1000s of miles later, it was still running well and seen the coastline from the northern waves of Santa Barbara surf spots all the way down South into Baja, Mexico many times over. When I sold it to a surf shop owner in Huntington Beach 5 years later, college was calling and the sale helped fund the new adventure. Yes, it was still "Salmon Pink..." YRMV

I primed and painted my coupe in my one car garage and driveway. I did it on a warmish 50 degree day in February, no dust, no bugs, no humidity. I used single stage polyurethane. It's no award winning paintjob but it came out good. thumbnail_20230127_210219.jpg thumbnail_20230205_152606.jpg thumbnail_20230218_145033.jpg thumbnail_20230218_152918.jpg thumbnail_20230304_103749.jpg

I'm really happy for all of you folks who live on paved streets with paved driveways. Some of us poor folks live on gravel roads with gravel driveways. I can't even spray small parts with a rattle can without the probability of getting dust on it. Even inside the shop with all doors closed. When Clarence got painted it was at a real body shop (by a professional painter) that only does specialty vehicles. Came out perfect but there's no way these results could have been achieved where I live.

Kudos to everyone who has posted on this thread.
