Bob D’Olivio (sp?) was the photo director for Petersen Publications and in addition to doing center spreads for MOTOR TREND and HOT ROD, he also did the photography for GUNS & AMMO. His photos of antique firearms was stunning. While Eric Rickman was thought of as a technical photographer, he was in the right place at the right time to document the hot rod movement over 50 years.
I would add Bob D'Olivo he was a photographer for Petersen Publishing company for over 40 plus years. He passed away in 2021 at the age of 94.https://www.sema.org/news-media/magazine/2021/10/bob-dolivo
Can't argue with any of your choices @Jive-Bomber. But the greatest has to be Jesse Alexander, so many classic images burned into my memory. And when I was a young art student Danny Lyon was one of my heroes. An interesting side note is Jim Marshal, the noted SF based music photographer. He was very much into cars, shooting lots of cars and events in his early days. Rodders Journal (#21 ?) did a piece about him and his automotive photography.
Yep, every one of them mentioned were incredibly talented. Thanks for bringing up a one of my favorite topics. Myself ,I have no talent, but I sure have an appreciation for the "eye " these guys possess. So many greats out there, quite a few on this site. If you haven't ever ventured onto Tom Davison's web page, do yourself a favor, by all means go there. What incredible portfolio, in All genres.
You missed my favorite. Louis Klemantaski. Considered the greatest motor racing photographer of all time. Take a look at his work. https://www.klemcoll.com/ListImages.aspx
The Klemantaski work is great. Be nice if you could see larger images of the prints. Huge archive of his work. Thanks for the tip @Speedster !
