Howdy all..Tim here..Over the weekend I purchased one of those reproduction 1939 Ford Banjo Steering Wheels...It seems pretty nice.. Its the ones that Limeworks or Streamline sells. I had been advised against it..but I was interested in what people have done to paint the grip part. It is black and I'd like to make it a different color..but I won't paint it if it will just flake off and look like ****...anyone done this? Tim MBL
I think that would depend on what the new wheel is made of. I used acrylic enamel with the hardener 10 years ago on my original banjo. It has held up well. The upholsterer knocked a couple of chips in it with some tool he was using. The same as a painted fender. No signs of lifting. You may want to check with the manufacturer to see what they used. I'd bet it can be painted with no problems but that's an expensive part to experiment with.
I culd be wrong but I think it is made of some type of hard rubber..material..I don't know for sure. Maybe someone on the board has done this... Tim MBL
