Usually I can search and find what I need but not this time so.... I am building a 61 Comet for my old lady, it is just about done. I want to lower the car 3" all around. Back was easy once I figured out where to get U bolts (thanks Nads) Front is another story. I cut 3/4 of a coil and gained a quarter of an inch? I have heard about "the shelby mod" lowering the upper arm mounting point 1 inch. I basically need to know how much coil can I cut and not bind the upper ball joint through range of motion? Thanks guys.....

I'm looking at eventually getting new coils from Eaton Spring in Detroit for my '64 Falcon wagon. They have coil and leaf springs that are 1", 2" and 3" lower than stock, but keep the original spring rates. Cutting one coil with the Shelby mod would also get you close to 3", but cut coils may not come out even side to side.

keep cutting, but don't think because the first cut didn't yeild much drop you need to make bigger cuts, go easy until you get the drop you need.

no need to worry about the ball joint angle, i'm running air bags on a falcon. i did a few mods to the strut rods and suspension snubbers to get it lower than normally possible, no ball joint problems.

i have no comment on the shelby mod in your case. i didn't do it on mine, but that was because of the very low adjustable height suspension. the shelby mod would have worsened the camber curve in my case.

From what I've heard the 'shelby mod' changes the camber angle, but doesn't actually lower the car.

I would suggest hitting the http://www.tffn.net/phpBB2/ Ford Falcon Forum, and searching the archives, lots of useful info there.

remove the spring covers w/ the bump stop and cut the spring to where you want it. and space the shock mount about 1 in fron the tower to keep your travel and just block your rear

where did you fing the right u-bolts? i also have a 61 comet right now its about 2in all around but im goin lower, i made biger plates and welded them to the stock rear spring/shock mount to use wider u bolts and also brace the stock mount, kinda thin, but my plans are to lower it 3 in all around drop in a 250/c4 , disks and 8.8 form a 75 monarch

Thanks guys....looks like I'll be cuttin more spring this weekend. I got the U bolts made at Goodyear Wingfoot Commercial Tire in Orlando. It took them 10 min. and cost me about 30 dollars, went right on, the fit was great. The car has stock 13's with 155 80 13's looks great!!!! I dont have a digital camera:mad: Maybe I can get Nads to post a pic or two real soon. The car is Satin Turquoise with a silver flake roof. looks good......she is happy so thats what is important to me:D. We are taking it to the Turkey Run in Daytona.......hopefully see some hambers there.

you have to roll the car back and forth a few feet to settle the suspension 3/4 of a coil should lower it more than a 1/4 of an inch.

Go to the Ford Falcon Network, you will find some very knowledgeable people and info about this, including first hand experience http://www.tffn.net/phpBB3/
