Bad AI, LSD and other unknown substances. But if they magically built it I would be interested in buying one.

  9. What's funny is I think if GM, ford, Chrysler actually built cars that people wanted to drive again people would actually buy cars not trucks and suv's/cuv's. A modern take on a 1957 Chevy as long as it doesn't get too bubbly looking with touch of chrome would sell, it doesn't even need a 700 HP LT v8 (although that would be cool) it just needs to be rear wheel drive with 200+ hp and be relatively full-sized and people would buy it.

They'll never make a new car with protruding headlights, narrow chrome bumpers, and an angle between the roof and windshield. Just won't happen.

But with AI you can fool lots of people pretty easily

This is AI done by someone who doesn't understand modern regulations and manufacturing (reality).
Where are the high sills for side impact?
Where are the standard flexible front and rear fascias?
Where are the roof pillars for roll over?
Where are the quickly installed, tight tolerance, glued in fixed glass?
Where is GM going to have that much chrome plating per car produced?
They could have stolen pictures of modern builds and been closer.

Can we please quit calling it AI??? AI implies the capacity for self learning, at best these algorithms are fancy PID calculators that can process a large amount of data quickly and spit out something that falls within the error parameters.

Fun Fact. If you feed the current "AI" algorithms a diet of only "AI" generated information, with zero human generated content, the results produced quickly degenerate into junk and gibberish. Definitely not self learning.

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

The "A" in the acronym tells us all we need to know about the level of "I".

"Artificial intelligence" doesn't stand a chance against "natural stupidity"

That is incorrect. The statement should read: "Artificial Intelligence" goes hand in hand with "natural stupidity." The 1st one wouldn't survive with out the 2nd one to prey on.

  17. Most of what you just mentioned isn't technically law such as rollover and crash protection, it's just frowned on and if a car scores badly in crash testing the media will go on an on in the modern world and people won't buy a car just based off a safety standards.
As for bumper laws I am not sure what the bumper laws are and I've been curious about that actually, I don't think there is any law stating that a bumper has to be neoprene, as an example a pickup truck still have relatively heavy chrome steel bumpers and they crumple still when in an accident, I would imagine the neoprene bumpers is more of a weight savings to get that corporate average fuel economy up. Because unfortunately that crap is law, or I guess I should say they get penalized if they don't get their average fuel economy to a certain level. As for glass I do agree it would have to be glue in it's just the way it goes now but even back in the early 1970s they could put chrome trim on glued in windshields (as an example the 1970-1973 Lincoln front and rear glass is glue in with stainless trim and it looks sharp and vintage by a modern eye.
A tri 5 inspired Chevrolet or Ford or even mopar for that matter could be made with modern standards but bring back passion into the automobile world. The Camaro was a good looking car as was the Challenger and the Mustang back in the 2010ish era, the problem is they flogged those cars for 10 years pretty much unchanged until all the sales tapered off obviously they were muscle cars or pony cars I guess so they were going to have a limited market regardless because they were not family friendly vehicles. But they all sold relatively well and I would think there is room for a full size sedan in the modern world but they're going to have to do things to make it look good where peopke eill buy it, pillarless hardtops, rear wheel drive, some of that new powder coating that looks like Chrome, maybe along with a small displacement V8 so you can get the proper rumble and tail lights that don't go seemingly all the way to the door but are slightly smaller and on the back of the car where they belong all would help a modern car sell also offering a station wagon and maybe even a convertible to lure families in to the dealership.
How about door handles that are Chrome looking instead of black plastic and maybe some horizontal trim that does absolutely nothing other than break up the body lines to make the car look longer and lower, maybe a trunk that you could actually put luggage in for the four or five adults that fit inside the car.
They can add all the modern technology to it and they probably should to make the car comfortable for the modern world but it's about getting the styling where you get the next generation lusting after the car plus the last generation to lust after the car most new vehicles lack this unless they are some sort of exotic.

Anyways obviously a 1957 Chevrolet isn't going to come back at least not in its original form, steel dashboards, low back seats, dainty almost pillarless hardtops were all phased out for logical reasons but technology could allow a modern car to have a rollover bar that comes out to protect the occupants in the event of an accident and it is totally possible. I believe Mercedes did this 20 years ago as an example. Building a full size rear wheel drive car obviously is not impossible Chrysler did it up until a year ago, all they need to do is just add a little front and rear overhang to make the car visually look and feel larger, they don't necessarily have to have a full frame although I would personally prefer it but a unibody car would be sufficient again Chrysler was doing it that way for 50 or 60 years.
They also don't have to copy the 1957 Chevrolet or some other vintage car but they could use it for inspiration. I think giant tail Fins are going to remain in the past for the foreseeable future but in 1949 till then started off as little tiny sore thumb looking things and by 1959 they hit their Pinnacle year the same styling can be done again but maybe slightly more reserved.
Anyways I got a feeling I'm preaching to the choir to you and to everybody else I guess I'm more ranting or venting about my frustration with modern automobiles and I really believe that people would buy sedans and coupes if they had the right look and style... I think the CUV is the modern station wagon but I don't think it needs to be a jelly bean, a 1957 ford, 857 Chevrolet and a 57 Mopar all shared basic design language but you could easily your car easily in the Sears parking lot because of 57 Chevrolet definitely did not look like a 1957 Ford in the tail end or even in the grill

The government safety standards are not laws, but are requirements placed on the auto makers to appease the insurance industry. Make no mistake here, if you build less the 500 vehicles a year ( I believe that is the current number), you can side step most of those requirements made on the auto industry, but the second you exceed that number, everything you build (including those already built during that year), has to meet the government standards. Bureaucrats establish those standards, no need to involve congress these days.

Farther more, the majority of cars and vans these days have front and rear subframes that are bolted to unibody structures. Trucks and many larger SUV's have full frames, but most cars and many smaller SUV's do not.

As far as the major car companies building something customers want, that would depend completely on if most of components they would need already exist and are already being manufactured someplace, and they would have to believe there may be a world wide market for. Anything less would cut into their profits, and would require approval from someone in the government.

AI sucks. Most of it has very limited ability to produce anything that appears real unless its something easy.

The safety standards are not laws but if you don’t meet them then they won’t let your new car on the road unless congress intervenes. It happened to former military vehicles!
