Everything I have is "stalled"!

This is my next project, a 57 Nomad.



I wouldn't say the project is stalled as much as it's waiting. I picked this up last August, registered it so I have a current registration and title in my name, and put it in the shop.

I busted my ass all winter to get my 61 Olds finished, which I accomplished. But honestly, after going full-throttle on that project for over a year, I needed a break. I've barely been in the shop in the last several months, save for regular maintenance work on my daily drivers. It's been a nice change of pace. I've taken the time to concentrate more on work, put more focus on my health and exercise, I've been playing a bunch of ice hockey and got roped into coaching my daughter's mites team, and working on some real estate projects I have going on.

I'm totally getting the itch to get back on it though. I'm thinking around the New Year will be when I switch gears and start putting some time in on it.

 

I had to sell the Morris Minor early in 2022, because a small property development project failed. It left me having to sell the property in question. Not only did I need the money desperately; the Minor was being stored on that property and I had nowhere to take it. That was two dreams I had to forfeit. It hit hard.

Ironically, having wrestled for years with my planned engine swap putting the clutch exactly where the steering rack wanted to be, I hit upon the solution shortly after selling the car. It came out of a thread conversation with @gimpyshotrods about multi-piece tie rods and Ackermann.

Whether they will turn into a car some day is anyone's guess.

No money, no space, no energy, no focus.

 

Years ago, a friend brought her father over for show and tell. He had a 40's chevy he had been working on. Sometime later I ran into her and asked if she thought he would ever finish it. Her answer was no. I asked if she wondered why he kept it. She said yes but had no idea why. I answered, if he sells it he has given up hope. Sometimes dreams are what keeps people going.

 

Who says you can't have too many projects at one time? (Me!) But I'm trying to mend my ways...

You will be glad to know retirement #3 has started for me. I have finished my “honey do” list and a project on my ot 65 GTO. I am now officially taking my 32 3 W project and changing status from stalled to active. I will be re-starting my old build thread shortly with progress. I can’t wait to see your progress on your 32.

Here is my '32 Roadster I've been working on the last year and a half. She was originally built in the early '70's with a Corvair front end. These pictures are from this Wednesday as I was loading her up to get a new interior (see leather hide hanging on body in picture 2). When she comes back, I'll hang the fenders and running boards and complete the car before the snow falls (I hope - at least that's the plan).

 

8 Years ago , I started this "sinkhole " project "A" coupe.. Now it's completely stalled out and I'm sick of it .. Sitting on a Brookville frame , 9" 4 link , Dropped axle frt. , engine /trans complete , patch panels mostly done.. Box after box of "stuff" for it all over the place.. Plan is to loosely assemble it as a "roller " and send it down the road..

Long story behind this one. Sort of picking up where it was left off. Great shop companion for my coupe!

 

Money issues, time issues, heath issues. Still trying to finish it.

 

I have a scruffy looking mid sixties OT car that I bought 34 years ago with grand plans. It was a poorly running almost driver but I tore it all apart. I cut the crushed shock towers out, but then I let the body sit. I built the motor for it (90% complete 416W stroker in place of the 289) the trans is a 26 spline truck C4 with the bigbell, which didn't come in mid 60s cars. I upgraded to a 9", narrowed that, added big ends, 31 Moser axles, a Detroit locker, Eldo brakes.
Had kids around 1999.
Screeching halt.
Didn't touch it for decades. Far side of the house under a tarp, hardly even laid eyes on it. Engine in a storage cabinet. Went to an event last year and met a guy who bought the same car, same scruffy condition the same year. But he's driven it all these years. Winter upgrades, back on the road. Small projects, one at a time, back on the road. Damn. That's what I should have done. That was a huge kick in the ass.
In the last year I've welded replacement shock towers in, did some rust repair patches, upgraded the brakes, plumbed them, rebuilt the steering box, finished the engine, ran it on a run stand. Mounted the tranny bell and TC to the engine. Dropped that in the car. Wrestled with headers for forever. Cut the radiator hole bigger, mounted a bigger aluminum radiator, destroyed an electric fan in my parts pile to use just the shroud. Plumbed the trans cooler lines, the fuel lines, throttle linkage. So friggin' many little things that you don't consider. Plus, doing a lot of two man jobs myself. Like wrestling that 9" and the leaf springs in. Awesome. It's a mind bending experience. You think you know what it takes to build a car until you actually do it. Putting a non-standard bigger engine, bigger trans creates innumerable issues. Not all the way there - wrestling with yoke/bushing interference, never knew there were 17 different Ferd u-joints (why????) the trans is bigger, fits in the tunnel but the cooling lines and the shift rod needed tweaking. Ended up twisting the main shift rod 90* to get it to work. Then there are all sorts of fittings and related. I made zillions of bushings on my lathe for the strut rods, the trans shifter, the linkage. Holy crap.

Well, it has been almost 2 years since my '57 F-100 stopped running, and I discovered that the 272 had 3 bent pushrods, and 3 stuck valves. Yee-haw.
However! A friend had an engine he gave to me that ended up being a good running Y Block, that he thought was a 292.
After some research and looking it over, it I discovered it is a 312!!
I am still detailing the truck, and will hopefully have it running soon.

This has been a future project of mine since 2005. Made a deal for it here on the Hamb. Actually sold it a couple of years ago to one of my best friends. He passed it along to one of our other best friends. I had the opportunity to buy it back not long ago and looked at it as just being meant to be. So, it's back home to stay.

 

And this is the reason I let the Caddy go to begin with. I had been trying to buy this car since the late 90s. When the time came I didn't hesitate.

 

Finally cleaning out all the construction material and getting the shop ready to wrench going into the fall/ winter........

This has been sitting like this for a couple of years.

 

Age and previous Polio weakened muscles have slowed me down to a crawl ,I had planed on finishing the ranchero ,got another six for it ,was going to get floor welded up and lower strut arm bracket brace to front crossmember replaced on both sides,got the motor pulled by the son in law ,but just due to the physical struggles of my body at 72 ,it just sets ,I have other cars to drive ,so I go look at it once in a while and make plans ,maybe someday I will manage to get it roadworthy ,if not it gives me something to think about lol

 

A friend owned this '53 Ford milk truck for a decade + working on it off and on. He ended up finding something he wanted more, sold it to another friend... I somehow jumped in line, had him make a few updates and hauled it home from Montana last year. Never quite enough time or money

Yes, a Frankenstein mix of parts but contrary to my username I am NOT building a r*trod. Apparently my definition of one is far different than the norm. I want a hotrod but unpainted.

I've moved halfway across the country and finally have a half decent shop but most of my car/parts are still in Utah. And to top it all off I fell last week and broke my back. Life is interesting isn't it..

I have far too many stalled or future projects stored up. 1968 RS/SS Camaro convertible, I inherited it from my dad, it has been stalled since the early 90's. 1967 RS/SS Camaro hardtop, Bought it during Covid. 1966 El Camino, almost finished, but stopped. 1955 Chevy 210, new pan and frame, stalled. 1956 Chevy Bel Air, parts gathering stage. 1966 Malibu, gathering parts. Just started back on my 1970 GMC last week. When will it be back on the road? Maybe a few days, maybe months, who knows....

I’m actually just getting going again on this one which I originally hoped to get roadworthy in fall 2017. Well, life got in the way, I lost interest in cars for a couple years, got my first full time job, moved out, etc. but recently I got bit by the bug again and got it running for the first time since 2019, and actually moved under its own power since 1995! I’m not sure how long this renewed interest in wrenching is going to last, so I’m trying to get as much done mechanically while it does, so hopefully this time I can get it drivable.
