Lemme guess, you had a secret meeting in which you secretly voted by secret ballot to secretly hold this secret drag race. Correct?
They might be called the Top Secret Drags due to the history of the Army Base? Back in the late '60's early '70's and later there were 3 Army Special Weapons storage Depots. Sierra Army Depot, Savanna Army Depot, and Seneca Army Depot. In addition to other storage functions the Army stored and maintained what they called special weapons but everyone else called nukes at these Depots. The physical security for the special weapons were handled by military police units. At Sierra Army Depot where I was stationed in 1972-1973 it was the 980th MP Company.
Sounds great, I'm going to lloyd-fest this weekend, if everything still works on the car when I get back, I might try to head up there for the races next week.
submitted my entry for approval and accepted! Planning to head up to NY on Friday. Anyone else heading up?
For those on FB here's a link to view some photos of some of the cars attending https://www.facebook.com/share/g/HSBGygsLGcjBRdW7/?mibextid=A7sQZp .
That's me in the red oxide Model A. We're taking a break from the heat at the moment, then we'll be back to racing until dark. I'll try to post some more pictures when I get home. I hope they can make this an annual event, what a great time it is!
this pic is lifted from @swade41 's post. I'm in the black T roadster behind the 55 gasser. About to lose some $ to the black coupe... It was a great weekend. No Hassles, great cars and people. My car ran hard and I didn't break, made it home with no troubles. I'm still stoked up from the event and looking forward to the next one.
a beautiful SBC in this sweet Fiat. You could feel the blast of the zoomies when it went by! Fast, loud, great looking car.
this SOB was the stand out of the street hotrods. Running a small block Ford with 2-4s. The guy really put on a good show. The faster street cars were all gun'in for him. I could be mistaken but I don't think he was beat by a hotrod. It took bikes and drag cars to get him.
Pete let me know about it but in typical fashion there were about 3 different things going on last weekend and I was committed to the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified show at Albany-Saratoga Speedway (Malta NY) about 3 hours west!
Jim Barillaro, co-owner of Barillaro Speed Emporium, Knoxville, with twin brother Mike. Top notch builders and all around good guys. They did the heavy lifting on my 41 pickup. That roadster is a no rust original Henry body!
