    Hello,

Back when we had just driven 50 miles South to find a nice quiet neighborhood street to sleep over night near the Camp Pendleton surf spots, it was a good thing to pull the curtain divider closed and hide our surfboards in the jungle near by. The long surfboards fit into the rear window of the sedan delivery, but could not be placed inside with the rear empty cave and close the rear door. Then, have a nice open space to sleep comfortably. The boards would fit inside with the rear door window in place, but then it would show others peeping inside what was there. No disguising a 10 foot long surfboard.

We did have dual “air mattresses” from our old Boy Scout and family camping days and that system was perfect. Blow up the mattresses at the nearby gas station, close the curtain divider and as far as a midnight raid by the CHP was concerned, no one was inside of the 1940 sedan delivery as long as they could not see inside the rear cave.

The CHP usually moved on to the “other” station wagons and cars with curtains to wake them up and make them move to the State Park location, a few miles away. Although they did some banging on the side of our door, flashed their lights inside, as long as we did not move, it was just an old car parked in a neighborhood due to an overcrowding, inside garage space. There was no inkling that the sedan delivery was a surf wagon loaded with food, cooler and a couple of surfers inside trying to get some sleep.

So, despite the total blind spot on the passenger side rear area, the enclosed rear area of our 40 Ford Sedan Delivery did have its advantages for privacy and security. Song lyrics tell the story played over time…
upload_2024-9-17_12-22-27.png Knock, knock, knock… “Who can it be, now?...”

    Men at Work:

“Who can it be knocking at my door?
Make no sound, tip-toe across the floor
If he hears, he'll knock all day
I'll be trapped and here I'll have to stay…”

With easier prey across the street, namely a couple of 55 and 56 Chevy station wagons with surfboards crammed under both wagons, they were trying to sleep, but were disturbed by the CHP making their rounds...

So, despite the grumbling, those surfers had to move to the State park. As long as we did not move or make noise inside of our own Flathead sedan delivery, those CHP officers could not touch a car, "just parked on a public street."

    Note:
After the long walk in the "jungle" trail to the surf spots, who was first in the dark, but fast approaching morning light? Yup! No one was around as the CHP had done their jobs and we just happened to reap the rewards by staying quiet... YRMV

I don't completely understand what I see in this picture, it appears every vehicle is trying to get in a continuous circle with few trying to leave it o_O.
