Most of you know the early '49 Cad V8s used rocker covers with two bolts through the center.

Soon, they changed to the perimeter bolt style and stayed with that for years.

Does anyone know if later perimeter-style heads can easily be retrofitted with the two hold-down bolts so that style cover can be used?

Does anyone have four of the hold-down bolts for sale?

Many cars used this style of valve cover. Usually the hold down bolts were an extension of the bolts holding the rocker arm shaft. If this was the case, you should be able to jimmy up some long bolts or have a machinist make them. If you can find the right rocker covers, the center bolt style were made of much heavier metal than the perimeter bolt style

    Hey Jack...how are you ?
Are we the only two in the world that call those tin things on top of the cylinder heads, "rocker covers", VS. "valve covers ?

you need a set of early 49 Caddy rocker arm ***emblies. you can see the threaded hole on the end stands. IMG_1601.jpeg IMG_1600.jpeg

For true, Mike; and thanks for asking. Doing about as well as an old guy can hope for.

Well, ****e; but thanks for all the photos. So bolts alone won't do it; we would have to have the rocker shaft stand with the extended boss for the threaded bolt holes. By any chance, was the boss still there on the end rocker stands, just not drilled and tapped?

does his car have aftermarket adjustable rockers? from the factory they were all non adjustable. what he needs are the end standoffs with the threaded holes for early valve cover mounting, they were only made this way first 2 months of 49 production.. or if he likes he could fabricate a mount held on by the end bolts, but He would have to verify clearance and possibly get longer head bolts for those 4....

For true; anything can be made to fit anything. It always helps to know how the OEM did it.

Mike knows well if adjustable rockers are needed on the early OHV8 Cad, those from the Studebaker V8 have been the go-to.
